Shows that you are there just for the headliner... The openers were the actually good original non-sellout bands, Normie.
But seriously, it sounds like instead of screwing smaller acts the simple solution to your problem is to have shows start sooner so you can be in bed at a reasonable time on a Tuesday (feel ya there!).
You ocan show up at 8p to see that band you like from The OC soundtrack, the rest of us can have an early dinner and support fresh/ more original/ local acts.
@1 - I agree; sometimes, I like seeing lots of bands, but I do wish the shows started earlier. That way, like with movies, you can just come in later and miss the opening ads or, in this case, bands.
I personally think the ideal show should have a headliner, another smaller touring band and a local band from each city that opens the show but touring is very expensive and I've played hundreds and hundreds of shows and also booked a lot too and worked at multiple venues and it's a lot easier get a big package tour booked.

Iām all for hearing new music and giving the new act some exposure, but when push comes to shove, the headliner is the reason Iām willing to shell out the cash to go in the first place.
I'm old enough I think music acts should be like the theater and offer a matinee 4pm show so I can enjoy their talents and still be in bed by 8pm. The good news for the youngsters is they won't be fighting me for 11pm show tickets.
