"This November, Washington will decide if we should un-amend his “Parents’ Bill of Rights”—a law that allows parents to read their kids’ counseling records—and whether or not we should ban trans girls from sports. Yes, all dozens of them."
Both of these will pass by resounding margins. Washingtonians believe in strong families protecting children from the dangers of gender ideology and evangelizing transgenderism, the need to protect women's spaces, and fairness in athletic competition!
You're not wrong that it will probably pass, Phoebe dear. But if it does, it will be because there are a lot of tragically gullible and extremely dirty-minded people in this country.
@1 I'm not so sure these are slam dunks. Consider the source. The unexpectedly deep resistance to Trump's white nationalist project is a definite sign that average citizens, whatever their experience (or lack thereof) with trans children, are simply getting tired of rank bigots and opportunistic hatemongers constantly telling them whom to fear next. Some might even be awake enough to ask themselves what Heywood and his ilk have ever done for women that makes them trustworthy on this issue. Yes, the haters might prevail given their financial edge, but I'll be surprised if the vote on both isn't close.
@2: I don't see how you can be so flippant with serious issues. Also it's the students themselves staging walkouts, as in Oregon recently, protesting boys in girls locker rooms. These parents in Washington State are former hippies of the sixties, not your Phyllis Schaffleys per your stereotypes, just trying their best in this confusing and accelerated world for young people. You're conflating gullibility with being a good parent.
At least think a little deeper, instead of responding with just idioms.
Phoebe dear, it's not a serious issue. You know that. I trust you to not be one of those dirty-minded creeps who obsess over teenager's genitals for clicks and profits (like another one of our fellow sloggers).
The youth who were worked up were probably worked up by some sleazy opportunistic clergy.

@4: I had my generations wrong. The parents of today are the grunge rockers of the 80s.
You don't know what the word "tantamount" means, do you?
