After successfully binging on the entire first season of Orange is the New Black on Netflix, I sort of have a hard time not comparing it to The L Word (since there is not even that many lesbian-ish shows to compare it to and all.) OITNB beats out the L Word on a few fronts—characters with consistent personalities, semi-believable relationships, etc.—but more importantly, it has a pretty great soundtrack. There's a lot of soul, essential hits like Kelis' "Milkshake," plus "Gansta," by tUnE-yArDs and "Living This Life Makes It Hard" by The Dutchess & The Duke are prominently featured.

And of course when I think of The L Word, that GD theme-song by Betty instantly pops into my head and gets stuck there like some flesh-eating bacteria has crawled into my ears. With that in mind, the Regina Spektor scored theme song, "You've Got Time," feels especially brilliant, and plus I do believe that it's my favorite thing Spektor has done since she collaborated with the Strokes song "Post Modern Girls."
