Satay

The satay at Satay—chicken, beef, lamb, or tofu—is great, in no small part due to the awesome peanut sauce, made in-house from freshly roasted peanuts. The rest of the short Malaysian street food menu (all under $10) is yummy, too; mee goreng (wok-cooked noodles), laksa (silky-spicy coconut milk soup), red curry, curry puffs, and roti canai (GET THIS). The space (formerly Avila) is bright, and the guys who run it—Peter and Patrick—make the haphazard order-at-the-counter service charming. Satay is an excellent place to over-order—it's all good, and it all tastes even better heated up in a skillet at home the next day. Also: cheap Rainier tallboys, Beerlao, and Thai roasted coconut juice.
