Girl From Monaco

95 min. minutes | Rated R

Anne Fontaine’s film about a wealthy middle-aged lawyer, his younger, more virile bodyguard, and a sexy weather girl is a tricky, darkly comic thriller masquerading as a piece of romantic fluff. The fun of the film is in the deftly sustained erotic tension between three characters that are both vividly drawn and essentially mysterious; you’re never quite sure, until the end, who’s in love with whom and who’s scheming whom. The three leads are superb and the film makes some surprising and very sharp observations about male friendship and sexuality.
