Beautifully shot and offering an intriguing look into the ethnic and cultural dynamics of an Argentinean family and their indigenous Wichí maid, this small-scale drama covers the family’s preparation for their daughter’s quinceañera. A biting critique of their shallow, clueless behavior toward the shy and subservient teenage maid, Nosilatiaj spends most of its time conveying the larger meanings behind small moments—an unasked for haircut, a glance across a room. Without any background knowledge of the region, the ties between Yolanda, her family, and the family she works for can be confusing, but if you’re at all interested in contemporary indigenous-rights struggles, this is a story to see.
