Before watching Far Out Isn’t Far Enough , I thought I had never heard of Tomi Ungerer, despite the film’s claim that he was once one of the most popular children’s book authors. But I have! And so have you! He wrote, among others, Flat Stanley. Even if you aren’t already familiar with Ungerer’s work, this documentary is a moving story about a man who is more than just a children’s book author—he is also an envelope-pushing badass crazy artist who’s brought immeasurable amounts of joy to kids and adults alike, in spite of his tumultuous, sometimes heartbreaking life.
