Rashomon
Kurosawa's legendary drama, starring Toshiro Mifune and Machiko Kyô and based on a story by the great writer Ryunosuke Akutagawa, remains a suspenseful, spooky, and gorgeously shot experiment in subjectivity. One horrible crime—the murder of a samurai and the rape of his wife by a bandit—is shown from the point of view of the three involved (yes, the samurai speaks from beyond the grave). Will we ever know the truth?
