In 1973, after reading about the first around-the-world regatta in a magazine, Mexican businessman Ramon Carlin decides he wants to race. He had no boat, no crew, and little experience as a captain. He made a crew out of his family members and some ragtag international sailing adventurers. The Mexican boat was pooh-poohed by the European media, but they were a determined bunch—it’s a true-life adventure story. There is neat original footage of the race, and all the crew members are interviewed to tell their version of events. There is a lot of specific information about sailing, but even if you don’t care about that stuff, it is an incredible story. (GILLIAN ANDERSON)
