CLASSICAL

THURSDAY 1/13

SEATTLE SYMPHONY -- This season, the Mostly Mozart series focuses on the three Piano Concerti of 1786 and the last 3 Symphonies, from 1788. The former is represented by Concerto No. 24 in C, K. 491 (Jeffrey Kahane conducting from the keyboard); the latter by the effortlessly charming Symphony No. 39 in E flat, K. 543. Also Symphony No. 33 in B flat, K. 319. Benaroya Hall, Taper Auditorium, 7:30 pm, 215-4747 or www.seattlesymphony.org, $15-$47.

SATURDAY 1/15

SEATTLE BAROQUE -- You mention 18th-century French orchestral suites, and one overwhelming genius comes to mind: Rameau. Unfortunately, none of his music will be performed; instead we get a collection of the elegant, tasteful, and frankly often soporific music that dominated French courts. Excerpts from Lully's L'Amour MĂ©decin, Campra's L'Europe Galante, and Telemann's Viola Concerto. Benaroya Hall, Taper Auditorium, 8 pm, 322-3118, $18 students & seniors/$23 general.

SUNDAY 1/16

NORTHWEST CHAMBER ORCHESTRA -- Trumpeter Allen Vizzutti takes center stage in this chamber concert, not only as performer, but -- if I read correctly -- as composer of a Sonata for Trumpet and Piano. Saint-Saëns' Septet in E flat and Bolling's Suite for Cello and Jazz Piano Trio are nice, festive pieces; and I've no idea who Mr. or Ms. Tyzik is, but s/he must be a trumpet specialist, since that person will be playing two works. Benaroya Hall, Nordstrom Recital Hall, 2:30 pm, 343-0445 or 292-ARTS, $22 students & seniors/$24.50 general/children 17 and under free when accompanied by an adult.
