THURSDAY APRIL 18

Transit

If you feel that too many drum 'n' bass DJs lean on the testosterone-soaked, standing-around-the-DJ-table, high-fivin' crowd, the Baltic Room is putting on a 2-step night twice a month to get us back in touch with drum 'n' bass' feminine qualities. Yet another hybrid imported from Great Britain, 2-step sounds a lot like American R&B. Like Timbaland on E, it has house's sexy flair but without conforming to the traditional 4/4 stomp. The Baltic Room, 1207 Pine St, 625-4444.

FRIDAY APRIL 19

Phatso Phridays

Grooving to DJ Riz for the first time was my initiation into the Seattle dance scene. Riz knows how to put together a set that can move people who have never stepped foot on the dance floor as well as people who live inside of speaker cabinets. Get out there and show some love.... Re-bar, 1114 Howell St, 233-9873.

SATURDAY APRIL 20

Slink

Wesley Holmes, Mark E. Quark, Brian Lyons, and Ken Wallace are bringin' house to the Hill. If you've been out to Slink in the past, you know that you have to be prepared to create a dance floor right where you're standing. I don't mind dancing in tight spaces, but I like to try to leave a club with fewer than two or three cigarette burns. The Baltic Room, 1207 Pine St, 625-4444.

SUNDAY APRIL 21

Yo, Son!

Chop Suey is thawing a Sunday-night hiphop party, so now there's no excuse for you lazy bastards who won't leave the Hill. I'm told that resident DJs Scene, of the Boom Bap Project, and DV1 will be spinning low-class, cracked-out beats. Chop Suey, 1325 Madison Ave, 324-8000.

MONDAY APRIL 22

Nu Patterns

The Baltic Room has consistently been putting on nights that showcase the best of electronic music. Nu Patterns has been solid from the get-go, and the downtempo, nu-jazz, and broken beats featured this evening really complement the Baltic Room's intimate appeal. Hold me! The Baltic Room, 1207 Pine St, 625-4444.

TUESDAY APRIL 23

Liquifi

Every week the EMP brings in local and national DJs spinning breaks, techno, drum 'n' bass, and house. Cheap drink specials, a non-smoking environment, and the fact that there is no cover make this a pretty popular Tuesday-night destination. Liquid Lounge at the EMP, 325 Fifth Ave, 770-2702.

WEDNESDAY APRIL 24

Breakestra

Deep Down Lounge is hosting a night of turntablism with DJs Tone, Topcat, and LSDJ. Dust off your Pumas and get ready to hear some crabs, flares, orbits, and mad transforming. This space has lots of comfy couches in case these beats are just too ill for your dome and your shit gets wrecked. Deep Down Lounge at Temple Billiards, 126 S Jackson, 682-3242.
