RICHARD VISSIONVission is one of those DJs whose eyewear costs more than your monthly rent. Which means that the L.A. jock knows how to please large crowds and gets asked to remix popular (and once iconic) rock bands like the Bravery and INXS. He's in town to support his new double disc, Automatic, which includes one DJ mix disc and another containing Vission's various productions and revamps. He's a competent producer of slick, hi-NRG rocktronica with his Stranger Days band, an approach that colors his overhauls of the Bravery's "Fearless" and Andrea Doria's "Bucci Bag." On his own, Vission is an adequate generator of accelerated funky house. As a DJ, he's populist to the core; unfortunately, what's currently exciting mainstream clubbers ain't that interesting, but Vission is undoubtedly a world-class party-starter who doesn't fuck around, as his 30 tracks in an hour Big Floor Funk mix proves. With Flave, Jordan, Hyperfunk. Last Supper Club, 124 S Washington St, 748-9975, 8 pm–2 am,free, 21+.

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 4

WHY?Cincinnati-raised why? (Yoni Wolf) has gone from rapping nasally for underground-hiphop legends cLOUDDEAD to singing nasally for his own shambling indie-rock quartet. why?'s new album, Elephant Eyelash, possesses slapdash, awkward charm and calcium-deficient melodies you can hum after your second listen. Nothing here enchants like "Miss Ohio's Nameless" off 2005's Sanddollars EP, but against great odds, why? and crew conjure peak-era Beach Boys if they'd recorded with Elephant 6's low-budget constraints. Respect is due for why?'s surprising reinvention. With Aqueduct, Matthew Shaw. Paradox, 1401 NW Leary Way, www.theparadox.org, 8 pm, $7 adv, all ages.
