Much as I hate to give any ink to the company that drains my scrill every month, please pay your damn Comcast bill just so you can get your blog-scouring game proper—otherwise you'll miss out on the new debut single from Sportn' Life Records' Spaceman, "This Is That Fire," produced by none other than Jake One. Space is headlining his first show this Friday, February 13, going down at Chop Suey with JFK, Scribes (it's his 21st birthday!), Sol (it's the CD release for his very promising debut album, The Ride), BYC breaking, and BeanOne on the decks. Do the right thing.

Which, by the way, gets a li'l more difficult the next night. Does this ring a bell: "Aw naw, hell naw, man/Y'all done up and done it..." That's right, Nappy Roots—who dropped their debut, Watermelon, Chicken & Gritz, some seven years ago—are coming to rock the Nectar stage February 14. Our guy on the fly Sonny Bonoho is touring with the Nappys, so he'll be in the house, as well as Direct Supply (featuring Kevin Gardner, best known for lacing E-40 with beats).

That same night, though, is also the jump-off of the big birthday weekend (fifth, to be exact) of everybody's favorite mysterious hiphop clan 206 Zulu. Bless up to all of y'all—King Khazm, Kitty Wu, Big Zo, Rob Nice, everybody! 206 Zulu are doing it real REAL big for their fifth, so they're bringing you the very best, and incredibly, it's all FREE and all ages, so everybody can come out and say "happy birthday." Throw on the beads, Bambaataa headdresses, all of that—DJ, cue up that "Zulu War Chant."

First up, on the 14th, while you and the fambam are soaking up Festival Sundiata at Seattle Center, with its Zulu-led youth workshops, live art expos, and film festivals, stop over at the Vera Project at 8:00 p.m. for a steel-hard lineup: One Be Lo, Dim Mak, Khingz, D.Black, and Siren's Echo all rocking.

The next day, Zulu has teamed up with Paulskee and Master Culture to bring you the 2009 Mighty 4 Seattle, featuring some truly all-star, all-world B-boy talent battling it out—and if you've never seen Massive Monkees battle, you need it in your life. It's going down in the futuristic environs of the EMP Sky Church and also features performances from Dyme Def, Orbitron, and They Live!. There's also the momentous occasion of the long-awaited return of Kutfather, as he, 206 Zulu's own King Khazm, DVS crew, and Supreme are all getting honored in an award ceremony. Maybe Kut could be convinced to rock "Neva Scared"? What? New-booties, check the classic Walkman Rotation comp circa 1998 if you haven't heard that one—and respect your elders, boy!
