Earlier this year, one of the most influential straight-edge hardcore bands of the 1990s, Unbroken, reunited for the first time in nearly 10 years to close out Chicago's Burning Fight festival. The band formed in San Diego in the early '90s and broke up in 1995. In 1998, their guitarist Eric Allen (also of Swing Kids) committed suicide, and the surviving band members came together to play a benefit show. It was the only time they'd reunited to perform. Until this year.

When Unbroken took the stage in Chicago, the room erupted with cheers, and the band played an electrifying set of songs from their full-lengths Life. Love. Regret. and Ritual. For the entire 45-plus minutes, the pit was boiling over with bodies scrambling to get closer to the stage and shout along with singer Dave Claibourn. It was one of the best, most powerful live shows I've seen this year.

This Saturday, Unbroken play at El Corazón with Seattle's own recently reunited hardcore legends Undertow. Strain, Balance of the World, the Helm, and Marginal Way round out the bill. The show starts at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are (surprisingly) still available for $20 in advance. I'd buy 'em now—it will most definitely sell out.
