I first saw Our Lady J when she accompanied the mighty Justin Bond during his 2008 show The Rites of Spring at the Triple Door, and like many in the crowd, I found the "tranny witch" at the piano completely beguiling. This weekend, Our Lady J returns to Seattle with a show of her own—Gospel for the Godless, a "new testament of post-religious gospel music" written and performed by the self-proclaimed "transsexual spiritualist" herself. Our Lady J's New York shows left critics raving about her fierce musicality and dogma-free gospel fervor. Gospel for the Godless plays for one show only this Saturday night at the Oddfellow's West Hall. Info and tickets here.
