DAVILA 666

Tan Bajo
(In the Red)
recommendedrecommendedrecommended 1/2 (out of 5)

Puerto Rico's Davila 666 have changed little of their formula—garage rock with vocal rounds sung in Spanish—for Tan Bajo, their second full-length, but some of the fire is gone. In that sense, they seem to be following the same trajectory as stateside friends the Black Lips, only at a sharper arc. But that's not to say that Bajo is an altogether bad record. "Obsesionao" is immediately infectious, and the soaring guitar line of "Si Me Vez" is as triumphant as anything they've done. Also, as evidenced by their performances at South by Southwest, the band's live show remains as fun-filled as ever. The last time they played the Funhouse, I met a real-life bandito, and he was actually a totally nice dude. recommended
