I never thought Madonna was "smart." Savvy, yes, but the complete absence of intelligence behind her music and persona always struck me as distasteful. Now that Lady Gaga has come along with the her vulnerabilities and intelligence hanging out for all to see, it just reminds me of how truly vacuous Madonna has always been.
