COCK & SWAN'S BEDROOMY DREAMSCAPES

Brittnie Fuller does a good job describing Cock & Swan in this week's Underage column, pinpointing the Seattle duo's "warmly frozen vibes" and spell-casting dreaminess. I would add that Cock & Swan's new album, Secret Angles (Hush Hush Records), is wispy down-tempo electronica seemingly made in the bedroom and for the bedroom. Ola Hungerford's voice is other-side-of-the-pillow cool and dulcetly deadpan, while Johnny Goss's production possesses a cushiony rhythmic agility and night-light-glow atmospheres. CLASSIC HOUSE FROM HAKIM MURPHY AND AARON CLARK

SpaceRock Saturdays' quality control has always been higher than typical in the realm of techno bookings in this city, and tonight's lineup continues that hot streak. Murphy began as a footwork dancer (a highly intricate and mercurial style of dancing to accelerated electronic music that's popular in Chicago) before taking inspiration from key Windy City house-music catalysts like Cajmere, Robert Armani, and Larry Heard. Now based in Oak Park, Illinois, Murphy purveys a technical, cerebral strain of techno and house that gets as spacey as NASA. Pittsburgh's Aaron Clark is a proven mover of masses through classic-sounding yet adventurous house tracks that reek of Murphy's home base. Funny how the Pennsylvania guy's more sonically Chi-town than the native, but that's the crazy world of underground dance music for ya. With Murdoc, Ctrl_Alt_Dlt, Roddimus, and Eugene Fauntleroy.
