Beyond whether this album is worthy of praise or not...

Isn't anyone else put off by the massive conflict of interest this represents? I realize that music writers may not consider themselves journalists and you can be cheeky and cute about how your editor wasn't around to check this, but obviously she will read it and then continue to assign stories! Even if you all really love the record this is unfit for print.
For a publication that lays claim to supreme morality and anti-cronyism you should be ashamed for giving an entire page to something that by its very nature lacks integrity.

@4 Agreed. It's really tacky.

Has anyone taken the Stranger's music coverage seriously for the last 5+ years, anyhow?

Segal's alright though.

@4 & @5: Hey, good looking out! But uh, Christopher is the editor of the entire Stranger, Bethany is the managing editor, Paul is the books and Slog editor, Kelly is our staff photographer/writer/columnist. These are not freelance music writers, so I assure you, no one is in danger of being "assigned stories" for the music section unless they want to write them. And yup, I think the entire idea here is based on the very obvious conflict of interest ;)

@6: Yes, deadly seriously. And yes.

Please wait...
