Ah the good old days. Black Flag now that was music. Not like that hip hop crap kids listen to today.

Saw Flag in Austin last November, they were great -- even if the whole punk nostalgia thing is weird and very hit-or-miss. No desire to see Black Flag; Ginn's acted like an utter douchebag and Mike V. has been a caricature of "extreme" since he left a trail of backstabbed and ripped off former skate sponsors and partners for stabs at a spoken word and writing career, pro hockey, pro wrestling, and posting photos of himself beating up kids. And then he fires Ron Reyes and asserts himself the new singer of Black Flag? Ouch.

OFF! is pretty amazing too.

Greg Ginn has resting bitch face.

OFF! is the answer.

Great article, Lar! and I'm with Sean Jewell. OFF! is the next best thing

I love this.

OFF! and FLAG are the answer...so true! Google up FALG in NYC to see a great live video (super audio as well) of the all alumni band....it kicks total ass. I unfortunately ran across Ginns version of "Black Flag" on the youtube tonight. Ginn ripping the Theremin and Mike V doing his best Rollins act....ugh. I was 13 when I saw Black Flag in a basement in Oregon, and hold those days as what helped shaped me into the person I am....a person who can spot BS Ginn and Mike V push out, but have total admiration for the guys who are only making a great thing even better!

Just when I got done laughing at the irony of Black Flag reenacting the foibles of Pink Floyd, they go and turn into Journey.

To be fair I always like Circle Jerks better. Everyone knows the best band on SST was the Minutemen.

@2

The the same thing more worldy older people said about punk rock in the 80s.

"aaaah I remember Davis and Satchmo...THAT was music, not like this bullcrap neonazi strummer punk rock of today!"

OFF! is retirement home hardcore.

There are 10 better hardcore bands in this state.

Hardcore is youth music.

Posting this both as an aging hardcore singer and as a person whose favourite punk band was Black Flag until a couple years ago...

Please wait...
