JAY TRIPWIRE'S HEADY TECH-HOUSE MINIMALISM
It's a wonder Vancouver DJ/producer Jay Tripwire has enough time to play out, considering how hectic his remixing and production schedule's been over the last 15 years (check out his Discogs entry and be dazzled). But thankfully, he usually finds time to play Seattle once a year. In the studio, Tripwire wields a heady style that fuses spacey Motor City atmospheres with dubby German minimalism and frequent forays into acidic textures. In the club, he gets equally deep and hypnotic with his selections. This show is a great way to lose all the weight you're probably going to gain at Thanksgiving dinner the next day. With Peter Evans, Casewag, and Kamaka. Kremwerk, 10 pm–3 am, $10, 21+.
UK POP-HOUSE UNIT HOT CHIP GET THEIR DJ KICKS
Best known for their chirpy, tuneful pop-house output, England's Hot Chip also fancy themselves selectors. They've released mixes in the esteemed DJ-Kicks and Bugged Out series, showcasing an eclectic, daring range and a proclivity for the unexpected. Any jocks who can work in tracks by the Doobie Brothers, Gang Gang Dance, Zapp, Dizzee Rascal, and Dub Narcotic Sound System in one set deserve respect. Hot Chip also delve into techno and house's deepest, most cerebral realms, dropping tracks by Gas, Theo Parrish, Audion, and Jeff Samuel. It's hard to predict what sort of set Hot Chip will lay on us, but it's likely to cover a helluva lot of ground and inspire much perspiration. With Blueyedsoul and Dutty Wilderness. Neumos, 8 pm, $15 adv, 21+.
RIGHT ON FOR THE DARQNESS—A QTPOC DANCE PARTY
Darqness is a relatively new monthly dance event headed by local DJ/producer Reverend Dollars (Jarreau Greene) and geared for "queer and trans people of color." (Straights and whites are welcome, provided they respect the concept and the clientele.) The musical menu focuses on hiphop, house, dancehall, R&B, Latin, and other ass-moving styles. Reverend Dollars' exquisite taste guarantees no dull moments. Guest DJ for tonight is General Meow, a DJ who privileges the pleasure principle in many different musical forms. Check out one of his mixes at soundcloud.com/djgeneralmeow/moving-on-in-time. Also note: Greene requests that you keep your scented-product application to a minimum. Maxim's, 9 pm, $5, 21+.
