People have been dying their pits about as long as they've been dying eyebrows, beards, etc.. Really this is not a trend, nor is it new. You are only hearing about it because style bloggers can't come up with original material, so it's going viral with repeat blogs.
Did you initially go to boeing imax or to a fake imax? If the former, did you really think you could show up 5 minutes before showtime and get decent seats?
As someone who's been following the hilarious media coverage of dyed pits, this current meme is generally credited to Roxie Hunt from Vain (aka how to hair girl), who wrote a post about it in October that went viral: http://offbeathome.com/2014/10/how-to-dy…

I've been looking at the two 'Zophar" photos and I'm seriously confused. The photo on the left looks like the back of a forearm, and the one on the right, the back of a leg. I must be crazy. Photo 1, I see the wrist bent back, a hand, a shirt sleeve pulled up. Pic 2, a clearly visible sock, pant leg pulled up, and round leg. What's up with that?
God bless everyone who authentically likes armpit hair, for me, there is nothing worse than the armpit of a straight-haired person. At least people with kinky hair have the courtesy to keep said hair actually in the armpit, instead of splaying out every. Gross. That is the real reason there are so few white players in the NBA, because they wear tank-tops. The move to sleeved jerseys is thought to be a move towards more racial parity in the Association.
