GET CARRIED AWAY BY VESSEL AND CONTAINER'S GRIMY TECHNO
Vessel and Container on the same bill? Sounds like a recipe for getting carried away. (Rim shot.) Anyway, this show is serious business, for it is MOTOR XXI, and Vessel (Sebastian Gainsborough) and Container (Ren Schofield) rank among this country's most accomplished producers of dirty and dissonant techno. Vessel's two albums for Tri Angle—Order of Noise and Punish, Honey—possess an immaculate industrial grime, their tracks fusing ominous atmospheres and craggy textures. I'm probably not the only one who thinks that Vessel's music could spice up an S&M porn flick—"Drowned in Water and Light" or "Red Sex," say. Container's beats hit with more force and propulsion than do Vessel's, and his productions evoke construction and ecological devastation more than they do sexual activity. I think you're still going to dig this Container fellow. Add the morbid, Carpenter-esque analog-synth machinations of Crypts' Nick Bartoletti and the action-packed, alpha-male techno of Patternmaster, and you're talking a night full of concussive catharsis. UNDERGROUND-TECHNO RENEGADES SANDWELL DISTRICT RAGE TILL THE BREAK OF DAWN
Karl O'Connor (aka England's Regis) and Juan Mendez (aka California's Silent Servant) form this version of Sandwell District for tonight's show at an undisclosed after-hours warehouse rager. It's a High & Tight party, and the crew says, "We will be bringing in serious sound, minimal lighting, and additional aesthetic enhancements." Dip into anywhere in the Sandwell District orbit of DJ/producer subversives and you'll find the gold standard for profound, psychedelic techno that makes the best sense in a dark space while your pineal gland is getting its third wind. Regis and Silent Servant are masters of dynamics and track selection (check out Fabric 69 for just one example of these skills). This gig runs from 10 p.m. to around 6 a.m. and is 21+. FALSE PROPHET SCORES MAJOR COUP WITH TECHNO GOD REGIS
Hot damn, you're in luck, people. Regis, god of techno thunder, is extending his Seattle stay and performing a DJ set at Sharlese and Kate's False Prophet monthly. While he is revered for his relentless, pulverizing techno via releases issued by his own Downwards and Sandwell District labels, Regis can slow it down and darken it to False Prophet's more industrial-gothic standards. It'll be very interesting to see him under these unusual circumstances. Bardo:Basho (Seattle's Kirsten Thom) has been angling her live performances increasingly toward minimal, hypnotic techno, with impressive results. Her recent set for Femmecult reveals the mellifluously melodic and haunting atmospheric qualities of her productions of late. She's part of a new wave of electronic musicians in Seattle and Tacoma associated with the secondnature crew who are elevating the scene. Kremwerk, 8 pm, $15, 21+.
