Pearl Jam will play two Seattle shows in August for the purpose of "raising funds and building partnerships to help alleviate Seattle-area homelessness."
The shows will happen August 8 and 10 at Safeco Field and the band will donate at least $1 million to a yet-unspecified homelessness effort.
At last count, about 11,600 people were experiencing homelessness across King County, about 8,500 of them in Seattle. In a city survey of people experiencing homelessness, 93 percent said they would move inside if housing was available. By 2030, Seattle needs nearly 30,000 new units of housing that's affordable for low-income people.
Mayor Jenny Durkan praised the Pearl Jam news, saying in a statement: “We must have everyone in the fight to solve homelessness including our local government, caring philanthropists, community organizations, individuals, and artists."
The band has not yet announced which homeless service providers or programs it will donate to. The band said in a statement: "Pearl Jam is pledging a minimum of $1 million toward local homelessness initiatives. They challenge everyone to join them—with the goal of raising a minimum of $10 million pledged toward addressing homelessness in 2018."
That should fix it! Tickets will go on sale soon right here.
