I'm surprised you didn't mention the Ray Charles and Cleo Laine recording of Porgy and Bess. If you haven't heard that version, then you haven't heard the best version.
Good Evening Charles,
I have Nina Simone's version of "I Loves You Porgy". It's beautiful. I also have had the pleasure of seeing Teddy Wilson live in concert. I saw him at Ravinia Festival in Highland Park, IL. It was in the early to mid-eighties. What a show! Finally, I shall see "Porgy and Bess" by Seattle Opera at McCaw Hall next Wed. I have a ticket. I'm psyched.

I've found I prefer the jazz or "Broadway" versions of Porgy and Bess to the tendentious opera, even if that is the purist version.
how many references to porgy and bess were on that great fugees record? i feel like a good few, but may be misremembering.
