The Seattle Club Has Been a Crucial Incubator of DJ Nights and Live Music

Breakdancing at Lo-Fi's Stop Biting night, 2011. Kelly O

I've had the "if that place closes, Seattle's really dead" conversation so many times now that it's lost meaning. There will probably always be unfilled space in my heart for the Harvard Exit and Hurricane. I glared for years at the gravel lot that replaced the old Cha Cha, Kincora, etc... I left Seattle because that lot came to represent new Seattle to me, and I couldn't stand it anymore. Then, while living a nomadish life for a couple of years, I saw firsthand that we're far from alone in being hollowed out and shucked clean by capital. Landlords are vampires everywhere, and they're doing a damn fine job of sucking everything out of every place. So I hardened myself to the inevitable crumbling, came back home, and started putting more energy into building the city that I want.

Losing the Lofi would be a damn shame. I hope they're able to figure out a way to keep it going.

Please wait...
