On October 24, Sub Pop's Andy Kotowicz passed away following a tragic car accident, leaving behind a wife and daughter—this week, the artists he worked with remember him.
I met Andy back in 1990 while he was working at a long-forgotten record shop on Church St. in Ann Arbor. He was the coolest 17 y.o. in A2 at the time without a doubt. We were a couple of young dudes heavily into underground music, especially SubPop, and spent hours listening to tunes and chit chatting. While we were never more than brief, casual acquaintances, I never forgot hanging out with him. For years I've misremembered the skinny, blonde, bespectacled kid by the name "Andy Whitaker" rather than Kotowicz. Ugh. I always wished we'd hung out more.
Glad to see he got to live his dream by working at the label he loved so much as a teen.
