But they book uncommonly enjoyable acts. kelly o

Everything old is new again - this is the culture that I grew up in, in the late 80's/early 90's. Basically, just before grunge put Seattle on the music map. Glad to see the trend re-emerging.

Really, it's a response to the failings of a capitalist economy to address the youth (read: not economically established) culture of our society.

How does one find out about these houses? You name many of them; is there a listing somewhere? My band would be stoked to play at a show sometime, but I know nothing about how to contact these folks. Any help?

LOVE THIS! Thank you!

@4 http://www.theantiscenereport.com is a starting place for diy leaning show listings.

There used to be seattlediy.com , which had contact info for a ton of places, but it looks like the site is no more...
5
I know that you didn't say the name of the place, but you linked to the name somehow. Just a heads-up!
6
@5 - Hey thanks! A few names were left in the online version due to an editing error, but they've been fixed.
7
The Stranger just got done bitching about cultural stereotypes at some library, and now we are told that cultural diversity is a black guy with a beard in a Rasta hat?

Speaking of stereotypes...
8
dear stranger: stop reporting about DIY venues before you blow their cover and inevitably kill them; just like you did Atlas and Healthy Times

learn the fucking lesson
9
@7 I'm Puerto Rican and that's a beanie. You are a racist turd
@8 this article was published with our full cooperation. How else would they have interviewed us. Thanks!

LUV THIS <3

KENN JOB
12
@7 actually, it is. You haven't been to the U Dist for a few years, have you?
13
Now THIS is how you write an article about a DIY all ages scene without Grandy-ing it!
14
What in the heck is a curated jam?
15
Haha, "Grandy-ing" it! That guy was a clown. The ultimate "yeah I used to like them when no one else had ever heard of them but now that they are actually good and people are noticing, they kind of suck. I am into this other band now but you probably haven't heard of them, they are kind of obscure." HAHAHAHAHA!
To my point now, I didn't realize DIY had ever faded out here! So this is a new thing?

THIS IS GOOD CATE

@7 sees what he/she wants to see. Way to go, dude.

Great article. I'm glad to hear there's an abundance of activity in the U district especially after Funny Button's untimely death

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
20
a show space so "legit" you can't identify it by name?

There is a Facebook group for people who want to be in the loop about DIY shows. Just search "DIY shows in the PNW" and you should find it. Just don't be a creep.

Please wait...
