Seattle "intellectuals" treat bad rock bands like some kind of high art, when it's really on par with something like pro wrestling.
They usually can't be bothered with high culture because it demands they put on something other than Converse and a black tee. Don't forget to get angry about Courtney! Sad.
As someone who lived through, and barely survived the Youth Assault of grunge in Seattle during the 1990s, where anyone over 25 was considered....ewwww....I find it funny that now this same Gen X culture is peddling 20 year old rock bands who prance around like spring chickens.
I keep thinking back to when I was 13 and starting to listen to My Music (1973, second wave of Classic Rock). By then the Beatles had broken up 3 years ago. They were one of the longest running music acts, 6 years in their recording days, and yet by 1973 they were far, far away. Band on the Run and Wings were a real group, the Beatles were for old people, like my 21 year old teacher.
A band which was 20 years old would have been like Dion or Chuck Berry...truly ancient history...so far away it was unfathomable. While Yes, ELP, Elton John were packing Madison Square Garden with multi-night venues, the 1950s bands would gang up and do weekend shows where they run the nitro burning funny car races in Englishtown, New Jersey (SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY!)
So now you have the former Cultural Revolution Youth pushing 40 and still trickling out indie rock to the teenboppers and acting like it's all good? As Bush (the band) said....I don't think so.

Seattle Gen-Xer's identical to the Boomers in that regard.
Why were The Melvins—who've been together for 32 years, btw—invoked in that rant? I've never gotten that vibe from them.
