Roxy Music is a million times dirtier than "Rocky Horror". Roxy Music is the real deal; "Rocky Horror" is the Peoria church bazaar version.

Did you not notice that "In Every Dream Home A Heartache" is about having sex with a blow-up doll? Or that its title is in part a call-out to Bryan Ferry's former art teacher's famous collage, "What is it that makes today's home so different, so appealing?", which is the birthplace of Pop Art? Did you have an original LP with the gatefold inside photo, where all the band members pose with guitars -- possibly the greatest rock band photo ever?

Anna you are immediately disqualified from ever doing one of these again due to her failure to start and end the review with "In Every Dream Home A Heartache." This isn't your bag, sadly.

Oh yeah, I agree with Fnarf about the who's dirtier contest. But I have to flip my wig to Anna about the experience of walking into a party that's already started. I always felt that way about Roxy Music in general even when I first listened to them in the 80s, and even more so about Do the Strand.

But then again I felt the exact same way when I took a class with Allen Ginsberg. Late to the party.

Saying "Brian Eno worked on this album" is like saying Keith Richards worked on a Rolling Stones album. Eno was one of the founding members of Roxy Music. He is not only responsible for the unique sound of the band (through his "treatment" of the music - creating a sound so unique they had to come up with a new name for it, hence Roxy Music) during his tenure, he clearly influenced the sound of the band long after his departure.

I bought this album when it came out in 1973 and I can tell you that hearing it was mind-boggling. It was like hearing music for the first time. And I have rarely heard anything since that has caused that level of excitement. And it still holds up!

Please wait...
