Small Faces

It's on Rhapsody, so done.

I'm piping it from my smartphone to my Vizio soundbar using bluetooth.

So, yes it was pretty good.

There is one hit that they play on classic rock stations like 102.5 so it's not totally obscure (Afterglow ...).

These guys are my favorite unknown 60's band. They could really kick some ass, with drummer Kenny Jones replacing Keith Moon in The Who. A lot of talent in those four little mods.

The second half of Ogden's is supposed to be a concept album about a boy who falls in love with the moon. After Sgt. Pepper's every British band had to do a concept album. This one was written while The Faces lived on a boat floating the Thames, doing a shitload of drugs. There's actually a live performance of this on the BBC with Stanley Unwin in studio. Well worth the effort to find, if just to see how much fun these lads were having.

This is pretty sweet so far. The stereo mix is kind of annoying though... the drums stuffed way over to the right a lot :/

Happy to see this record get some love...it's super awesome. But I think the "Never Heard Of 'Em" series is more entertaining and compelling for most people when Anna listens to something less obscure. "Ogden" is certainly influential and thus falls within the stated goal of the overall concept here. But it's more fun, I think, to take advantage of Anna's lack of familiarity with well-known music than it is to have her review something even many music nerds wouldn't know about.

Niiiiiiiiipeeeeeerrrr!

Awesome review as always, Anna.

@6 I was about to argue that the Small Faces aren't obscure, but then realized I didn't know about this particular album until now. The mod era stuff is what I usually think of when I think of the Small Faces, and while it's great, it might have made for a less interesting review.

I've know this charming record for the best part of forty years, and in some ways this is the best commentary I have ever read on it. Well done that woman.

Please wait...
