"I didn't see this kind of shit three months ago"

Maybe because they get removed pretty quickly. Racist flyers and stickers have appeared in that area since at least early October, maybe earlier.

Here's a map of where some of them were:

Recently watched Don Letts' excellent The Story of Skinhead (for the BBC, Channel 4). Although America hasn't had any multicultural youth movement focusing on music and fashion taken over by the racist far-right recently, it's not hard to see the frightening parallels of how ideas can spread and progress can be erased, especially when they pan across National Front-inspired graffiti reading "Britain First" (sound familiar?).

Good for you, Doug Nellis, for seeing & removing that horrible fascist bumper sticker and putting it in its proper place--the garbage can, and Ana Sofia Knauf for reporting.
5
Do we want to broadcast their hateful bullshit on the Internet in the course of reporting it? It should all be recorded for forensics, but I feel like I'd rather publish a criticism, rather than a reproduction.

11/10 placed by guy who took pic.

Never mind four months ago, there's been a perennially refreshed subculture of white-power kiddos right here in our precious "urban oasis" for at least 40 years now.

Not every teen who flees to Slug City from Idaho and Spokane and Bozeman is doing it because they're a bullied artistic homosexual; turns out at least a few of our young immigrants just wanted to get the fuck away from their parents, and/or the tiny little towns they grew up in.

The one thing that's different here is that where our newly arrived Hitler Youth used to just vandalize dumpsters and mailboxes and the like, they're now vandalizing things that The Stranger's target advertising demographic actually look at and care about.

In addition to reporting these incidents, consider donating to The Southern Poverty Law Center, which works to track and fight hate groups.

Back in the 80's we had a problem with racist materials here in Seattle. It was very subtle, overall - you'd see stickers in phone booths and places like that. I remember finding a racist pamphlet in a library book at the Central library. I showed it to the librarian, and she sighed and said that it happened from time to time. (there was also a whack job who put mimeographed Bible verses in public phone books, but that's another story)

It all seemed to dissipate once it was discovered (via The Stranger, if I remember correctly) that white supremacists had taken over the Odd Fellows club on Capitol Hill, but the Ravenna area has persistent problems - probably because of those awful slum lords who own all that land around Roosevelt high school. I know they had some skinheads working for them for awhile.

If only we could just kill all the white heterosexual men.... damn damn damn..... Telling them to shut up isn't enough

Has a bumper sticker ever convinced anyone of anything?

Seems kind of like the dry hump of propaganda strategies.

Looking forward to the next hard-hitting post where you show us which bus stops had Jehovah's Witnesses hanging around them with their stupid book cart

Please wait...
