Absolutely Nothing At All

The Shoe Polish Message/Midspan Aurora Bridge/Sun July 13/5:44 pm: This afternoon, a passerby in a vehicle phoned 911 on his cell phone when he noticed a woman on the Aurora Bridge writing a message on the railing. Officer Rainford responded to the call and upon arrival noticed a woman clinging to the railing, while holding a bottle of shoe polish and scrawling this message: "Jump, 2 many rapes help me (frown), no one understands! What if your father held you down & raped u? I am only...." She was approached by Officer Rainford and "placed into handcuffs for her own safety." Officer Rainford reports: "I could see that the victim had both fresh and old lacerations on both of her arms. It appeared that she has made several suicide attempts in the past. I asked her what she intended to do today and she responded, 'I guess I have to jump... the other ways just haven't worked.' She was then transported to Harborview Medical Center by AMR for a psychological evaluation." [Note: George Washington Carver (1864?-1943), who created shoe polish out of pecans, was a black man.]

An Honest Christiansen/Downtown/Fri July 11/10:15 am: Detective R. Christiansen writes: "On the listed day and time, the witness, McGoodwin, observed the listed money [one $20 bill] lying unattended on a bench in the hallway outside of a Seattle Municipal Courtroom. McGoodwin did not see anyone else around the area and advised me (who was there on an unrelated case) of the situation. I seized the money and it will be placed into evidence. There was no one around the hallway when I seized the money." [Note: Italics are mine.]

The Eternally Fucked/Rainier Valley/Tues July 8/Between noon and 5 pm: Today, a man went into his bedroom and found two dagger-style knives stabbed into his door with the words "You fucked me eternally" written on the door in ink. Later that evening, a woman who for the past nine months has been in a rocky relationship with the man, and who comes from Uinta, Wyoming, where she was recently released from jail by Judge Thomas F. Mealy for some domestic incident, called and asked, "Did you see what I did? Did you see what I wrote?" The man confirmed that he had indeed seen her message, and, after hanging up, called 911. The woman was contacted and arrested by Officer Conine. Officer Benshoof photographed the daggers and the writing on the door. [Note: Uinta County, Wyoming, has a population of 19,972.]

No Photographs for the Aryan Doodles/Northgate/Sat July 5: Today, a man being treated in a Northgate hospital for an unspecified health problem was found to have used markers to doodle on the wall over his bed and on a tabletop outside in the hospital's smoking area. The complainant, a hospital administrator, stated to the reporting officer, Officer Buxton, that the markings, which happened within the last week, concerned him because some appeared similar to incomplete swastikas. The administrator also stated that, to his knowledge, the suspect had not made any derogatory remarks to the multiracial staff. Officer Buxton concluded the report with this: "The suspect was [in bed] and did not respond when contacted. Marking on the wall was not photographed." [Note: An incomplete swastika could also be the legs of a running stickman.]
