WEST SEATTLE/MAGNOLIA/RAINIER BEACH In the last week, Seattle has a bad case of firerrhea. From West Seattle to Rainier Beach, a warehouse, a townhome, a car, and three porta-potties were torched. The fires, acts of arson, resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of property damage, while injuring several firefighters. Seattle Fire Department spokeswoman Helen Fitzpatrick says the arsons don't appear to be related. The Seattle Police Department is investigating.
THE WATERFRONT Seattle police are stepping up patrols in the waterfront area after residents and business owners complained that increased patrols at Victor Steinbrueck Park—located at the northern tip of Pike Place Market—had simply moved drug activity to another area. Extra lighting is being installed on the waterfront to fend off junkies and vampires.
