Jason Osgood clearly has the best experience to do the job. After the election is over then the work begins and Jason is ready Day 1.

I agree. Osgood is the one Democrat mobilizing grass roots activists for this campaign. I think he has the best shot. His name recognition approaches, if not exceeds Hara as a result of his SoS bid.
Osgood also has the advantage of being the only non-career politician or elections bureaucrat in the race. People want a competent outsider, not more political hacks.
Erica may think he's sweaty, but his time has come. :)
King County officials may yet regret making the Elections Director (Manger, whatever) an elected position. There was a good reason for making it appointed when they drafted the county charter back in 1969. It is a technical job which should be filled by the most competent person having knowledge of elections administration, not just someone who knows how to get elected. For years, the Elections Superintendent was a career service position, under the appointed Manager, Records, Elections and Licensing (Licensing added in 2002). This served as a technical buffer between the elections process and the political appointee. It worked for over twenty years.
Also, the person who is designated as the head of elections in the county by ordinance, regardless of title, is considered under State Election Law (Title 29) the "county auditor" and is subject to the Secretary of State for the proper administration of elections.
Julia Patterson has failed at managing tranportation and public health issues under her watch. It is a good thing that she is not running for Elections Director. She needs to focus on retaining her council seat because both Rs and Ds want to take a run at that seat to elect someone competent.
Who actually has something credible to say about the job, and election integrity?
The County didn't do this, the Voters did. My real interest in an open field of contenders, is in who actually is competent and knows what they are talking about.
But I wouldn't count on the press in this town to do anything but muddle the issues in this race beyond reason. There's a lot of really big work ahead of whoever gets this job, and there's only one candidate in the field who is really qualified, but this town's media has bought the villification of Ms. Kempf hook line and sinker.
Jason Osgood is an excellent candidate for the job. Not only is his career experience specifically on target, his uncompromised dilligence and tireless work as an election security activist over the last few years (talk about thankless!) attest to his personal abilities and passion for the election process. However, he did recently send out an e-mail that endorses Sherill Huff and describes her intentions in that possition, so it's possible she's changed her mind about running...
