City Targets Lake City Bar for Drugs and Violence

I love that Lake City is considered this hotbed of crime, when in comparison to the problem areas of other metropolitan cities it's like fucking Candy Land. Also, "Little Beirut?" What? If I can walk home at one in the morning with some mace and and feel adequately protected, the place in which I am walking does not deserve the moniker "Little Beirut."

i wonder how much of this info will actually help the roses business. i tell you i am curious to visit now ;)

Kudos to Seattle Police for finally paying attention to Lake City. There are serious gang, crack and violence issues. And, there is serious poverty. It is a forgotten part of the city - until now.

Good ol' Lake City. Seattle's finest.

Good ol' Lake City. Seattle at it's finest. Not so sure about the "Little Beirut" reference though. I grew up in Lake City and that is news to me.

We used to refer to North Seattle, in general, as a place where a man's wealth was measured by the number of Cameros jacked up in his front yard. This isn't the only scumbag bar in that swath of geography but the fact that we "reward" slimy people by giving them places to congregate is truly our own fault. Shut this, and a few other places, down. Put those condo obsessed to work by getting them behind cleaning up this sort of dumb place.

Look Lebanon news found "little beirut"

When I saw the post above from danaeK I laughed so hard beer shot out my nose
thank you interweb, and thank you stranger for making Seattle look so dangerous that no one else will move here LOL this is awesome , full of both win and fail simultaneously

"Metropolitan" Seattle is obsessively safe compared to other cities. Outer Seattle creeps the fuck out of me, like Lake City, were there's an air of northwest style redneck and meth sprawl. Too quiet. Get rid of that bar and make it a better place.

The comments I am reading must be from blind people or something. Delusional more like it.

Good of Jonah to write this article. "Little Beirut" is a mild phrase. 137th and Lake City Way is definately a DMZ.

Everything stated is deadly accurate. 'Cityperson's' comment has it right on!

Newsflash! As of last night, the Rose Garden is closed.

btw. I do have to say that Lake City has sure improved over the last several years.

Say 20 years ago, there is no way I would have lived there. Lake City Way was a 'blade', just like Aurora.

And with recent activity, kudos to the city for driving the riff raff out. Still have a ways to go, but targeting Rose Garden was a good move. Bomb ground zero. There is no other place in Lake City they can really go to. A lot of it will move indoors to various apartments around the Rose Garden.

Get the crack and meth out! The culture surrounding that scene is the lowest of the low. Talk about sexist abuse of women!!!

Will OxyClean get the scum out?

I live a couple blocks from the Rose Garden. I know the place is pretty seedy, but the neighborhood that I see described in the Stranger doesn't bear a lot of resemblance to the one I live in. The Cedar Park block watch just sent out an urgent alert about a missing kitty cat, for pete's sake.
13
Lark Hawk, there is a lot going on around in the neighborhood you and any decent resident are unaware of. That is because the nature of the crimes has to stay hidden.

A missing kitty poster? So what?! 99% of the neighborhood is decent people. The poison of that other 1% is powerful.

I could walk you around for say, a 24 hr. period. You will understand what Jonah (our journalist) is talking about.

Why don't we start at that park on 141st and 32nd NE... What looks like nothing to you is actually some pretty heavy duty stuff going on.

The beauty of it is that Lake City is not like Rainier Valley or something. The increased police presence in our area has driven the public riff raff away. Now it is just a case of driving the termites out of the wood work of the neighborhood.

Oh man, i could show you some things hidden in Lake City that would blow your mind...

I live there also...

They really closed...http://www.lakecitylive.net/2009/04/08/closed

When was the last time someone was shot execution style, in broad daylight, in front of at least a dozen witnesses, on a major intersection in Lake City?

16
Yeah, Dazzling Urbanite, it's just not that hardcore. Yes, there are drug deals and prostitution. There's not all out gang war. Average citizens can walk down the street undisturbed. The Rose Garden's patrons might have catcalled females, but if that's the worst thing that happens, it's not hell on earth.

little beirut exists because
seattle police dept does not wnat to clean it up, because they centralize the drug trade that way, making it easier on themselves vis a vis their workload, and since the area is low income, and the drug dealers and users and mostly black, and who blatantly use in the woods behind the park where the spd has NEVER BEEN, it's allowed to continue, exposing the racism of the city council/mayor/spd/and whoever else is in a position of power to clean it up

for the children -
