Curiously, in the CNN clip they say the overwhelming viewer response has been in support of McMillan, then they presented almost exclusively bigoted responses...
2
@1 I noticed that, too. What a horribly constructed story.

Gay and Straight are 20th century terms.

Now there are only

Hot Men.
Hot Women.

4
It's the same bigotry and discrimination as it were for an interracial couple who wanted to attend the prom but were barred from entering.
5
She'll be on the CBS early show tomorrow. I think that show appears even on Mississippi tee-vees.
6
@1 That's fair and balanced reporting for you.
7
that was annoyingly biased. "Most people support the girl but now we're going to tell you mostly about the people who think she sucks." fuck you CNN
8
Seriously "So far Chuck, most folks here side with the student..." My favorite part was with Rudy... "all bumpin' and grindin' against each other, like it was a real dance or whatever..." lmao.

Side note, I think the problem with people who "don't want to see that", is that they realize that it is a trifling bit odd that they alone can't seem to rip their eyes away...
9
I noticed the bias immediately as well. Then the reporter's question, "what do you say to someone who says they are offended to see that." Same damn thing you say to someone who claims to be offended by interactial couples or the presence of a disabled person. "Grow the F*** up!" Worst question i've heard by a reporter in years.

Yep, folks, Fox is the most blatant, but that doesn't mean CNN & MSNBC aren't there w/ 'em. The only thing MSNBC has are a few liberal commentators. The cable news broadcasting, along w/ the other major print media are all pro-corporate, anti-civil liberties propaganda outlets.

Their corporate masters used them to turn 'conservative' into the bizarre, insane cluster-fuck we know them today. They bought a bunch of Dems, because, well, they could be bought.

Dan, if you haven't already done so, take a look at Fricke v. Lynch. Good things are coming.

I'm lifting this from the comments section on Salon--but I was thinking something similar

"REM should offer to play the prom on the same night as the straight one, open to all orientations from the school.

How about it Michael Stipe?"

Now, REM is probably a little dated for today's high school kids (although some are into "retro" music because of Garage Band etc.), but some celebrities should step forward and put together an awesome prom for all gay and gay friendly students in the area. The teachers and haters can enjoy the remaining lame-ass prom....

14
hey now-don't lump teachers in with the haters. I'd refuse to chaperone a dance that discriminated against a student.

I'm amazed at how completely "preventing a distraction" has blown up in the bigots' faces. teh internets make shit like this really hard to hide...

Over 35,000 now on Constance's facebook group.

OMG, having a "Not-a-prom" hosted on the same night in the same town by major celebs would be the coolest thing I could imagine happening as a result of all the media attention.

Of the eight comments cited, three were pro the girls, four were anti the girls and one (the first) was sort of fence-sitting.

So, I wouldn't say the comments presented were "almost exclusively bigoted" as @1 suggests. BUT, that being said, IF the responses were in fact OVERWHELMINGLY supportive, it might have been a better reflection of that sentiment if the segment had been more pro-girls than anti-girls.
18
@17:

Yeah, according to the reporter, the comments she received where overwhelmingly supportive. "So far, Chuck, most of the folks here side with the student, they kind of feel like the prom should happen, and the girl and her girlfriend should be able to attend."

Nonetheless, the people that they interviewed live - or by phone - were generally supporters, so it's probably "fair-ish."

(Notice also how all the bigoted responses were more anonymous: on the internet or over text. Even the school district sent out their bigotry in text form, without a face to the message. Like why didn't they show us any live bigots they interviewed? ...are the bigots too cowardly to go on camera? Supporters, on the other hand, often spoke with their own voices.)
19
...or was their footage merely excluded by the liberal media?

NEW TERM: SOUL PEDOPHILE -
DEFINITION: One who strips a childs soul of their dreams through abuse, hatred and discrimination.

The whole Itawanba High school board are a bunch of SOUL PEDOPHILES!!!

i was a prom queen. I went to prom with a queen. Apparently as long as its gay guy/straight girl or gay girl/straight guy its ok? what about ugly girls/boys that weren't asked, can they go? this place is soul pedophil-ing all kinds of kids. NYC has been called to action on this (like we need to be called, we're there at the discrimination door with a casserole most times.......xo)
FIGHT ON!

Please wait...
