I'm surprised he got the use of "their" correct.

Go back to dumbfuckistan and fuck youself asshole.
2
Nothing in Dan's post surprised me... until I read that this jerkoff is a school board member. I am fucking speechless.
3
Can you "fire" elected officials, which is what most school board members are?

I think the word you are looking for is "recall".
4
It is likely that Clint McCance can't be fired since most school boards are elected by the voters. And based on this quote from the school district's website, I don't see this jackass getting voted out over this.

"A majority of the students who attend Midland High School today have parents that also attended the district. These students have many of the same values as their parents."

And so I say to the gay students at Midland High School - it gets better, catch the first bus after graduation.
5
"being a fag doesn't give you the right to ruin the rest of our lives." I can't help but wonder what he means by that? How, in his tiny little head, are gay people ruining lives?
6
So, I'm imaging what it would be like to be this man's gay son, or to be a lesbian who goes to a school official such as this man, thinking he will help her...How is it possible for a country that considers itself to be such a shining example of everything that is "right" to foster such stunning, irretrievable ignorance?
7
@5:

Just by existing, apparently.
8
If you get easily offended being called an ignorant piece of shit then don't tell anyone you are an ignorant piece of shit.
9
conservative evangelicals have been running for school board since the moral majority era. they're in every rural school district, all over the country. its why we all live in the city.
10
One more reason why I don't support local control of public schools.
11
gay.
12
@6, if I were his gay son I'd expose evil Dad by hacking his Facebook and...hey, waitaminute!!

That's the only thing that kept my email to the superintendent civil - the vanishingly small chance that there's more to it.
13
@6 - If you go to the FB page, you can see a screencap of his comments to his original posting. He states, "I would disown my kids if they were gay. They will not be welcome at my home or in my vicinity. I will absolutely run them off. Of course my kids will know better. My kids will have solid christian beliefs. See it infects everyone."

What a steaming pile of hateful shit.
14
I guess if you can't teach -- or spell -- you go on the school board o.O

I'm curious as to whether that school board will actually do anything. But I've sent in my emails -- if they can understand a properly grammatical complaint. Maybe I should send in a second one, tailored to the apparent level McCance's at.
15
'illiterate' may not mean what Dan thinks it does...
16
On the other hand, it was heartening to see that one of the first responses to his initial hateful post was from someone totally calling him out on his bigotry. Even better, they appeared to be local and were pointing out how he was failing to conform to (presumably shared) Christian values.

Maybe the tide is starting to turn and the moderate majority will start speaking up. Good work, anonymous local.
17
I don't like this person, and I'm sure he's making decisions that effect the youth whose future's he's in charge of, but I don't see these comments as a basis for him to be fired unless there's evidence that he's broken the law or these beliefs are harming his job performance. As someone that has friends who are teachers and public servants, I firmly believe that their personal sites (Facebook, Twitter, etc) should remain in their personal lives. If my friends should be allowed to have a personal life in public, then this hate-monger has the same consideration unless he is proven to be harming kids at work.
18
Maybe the capacity for self-delusion is what separates us from animals. (Considering there are plenty of gay animals in wildlife and they coexistent happily with their straight brethren.)
19
"They Sinned And Killed Thereselves"

well.

they DID kill themselves.

and half of Americans believe homosexual behavior is a sin.

Clint is hardly alone.....
20
18

you're so right.
the notion that animals are 'gay' is one whopper of a delusion....
21
His last post said he would disown his kids if he found out they were gay because "it infects everyone." It takes a lot to make me angry, but this really hit me hard.
22
A religion that teaches you to hate innocent children? Yep! That's Christianity today! Same as it's always been. A sickness of the mind.

My letter:

Dear Superintendant Stanley,

I have recently read several articles having to do with inappropriate content Clint McCance has posted on his Facebook page.

Mr. McCance is certainly entitled to his private opinions. However, when he posts them in a public sphere—like Facebook—he is inviting both reponse and repercussion.

McCance decided to criticize the recent day when students and faculty, nationwide, were asked to wear purple in honor of LGBT youth who have recently committed suicide. McCance responded to the request by posting:

ā€œSeriously they want me to wear purple because five queers killed themselves. The only way im wearin it for them is if they all commit suicide. I cant believe the people of this world have gotten this stupid. We are honoring the fact that they sinned and killed thereselves because of their sin.ā€

I will pass over the atrocious spelling and grammar, and refrain from asking what business a man with such poor language skills has in an educational system.

However, as a teacher, I cannot believe that a man who advocates and longs for the mass suicide of ANY population of students is in a position where he holds power over children, teens and young adults.

Later in the post he writes: It you get easily offended by being caleld a fag then don’t tell anyone you are a fag. Keep that shit to yourself. I don’t care how people decide to live their lives. They don’t bother me if they keep it thereselves.

Again, there are many things to object to in this statement beyond the atrocious grammar and spelling.

For starters, not all students who are bullied for ā€œbeing fagsā€ are, in fact, gay or lesbian. Many students are bullied merely because they look or behave differently from ā€œnormalā€ students. Other times, gay and lesbian students are bullied even though they are not, nor have they been, sexually active. In order to keep their sexual orientation ā€œto themselves,ā€ they are unable to engage in such innocent and socially-approved activities as asking the boy (or girl) they have a crush on to the prom or homecoming dance. To do so would invite scorn and bullying. As McCance’s post proves, this bullying is not necessarily coming from the students; it often comes from faculty, administrators, or school board members.

Still later, McCance writes, ā€œbeing a fag doesn’t give you the right o ruin the rest of our lives.ā€

I fail to see how the request to wear purple ruined McCance’s life—or anyone else’s for that matter. The request was simply a request—not an order. To the best of my knowledge, neither McCance nor anyone else was mandated to wear purple, nor punished for failing to do so. Even if that had been the case, while I would object to such a mandate personally, I cannot see how wearing purple for a single day would ruin a life.

And his tone of wounded indignation also reveals a double standard of the most heinous nature: he longs for the mass suicide of LGBT teens, but feels as though his own life ā€œhas been ruinedā€ by a request to wear purple.

McCance’s words have revealed him to be paranoid, lacking in compassion, lacking in judgment, and a hateful human being. I use the word ā€œhatefulā€ in its most literal sense: being full of hate.

He has no business in any school-related position.

Huh. This is a whole lot like that Tony Perkins quote in the last posting, with the idea that these kids are killing themselves because they are gay/experience same-sex sexual desire, which explains not the fact that they didn't kill themselves much sooner, the non-gay kids who are killing themselves because of homophobic bullying, nor the fact that presumably some of these kids never had any gay sex (the Bible condemns ALL lustful thought, be it straight, gay, centaur-directed, whatever, and also male homosexual activity).

@17: True, but the personal opinions of these people do affect their positions, so as a(n) (presumably) elected official (he can't be fired by the superintendent if this is the case) his views are relevant to his position, just as an elected official posting "I hope all niggers kill themselves" should be outed, so the voters know for whom they're voting. I also think that the expectation of privacy with respect to things that one posts to a public forum is a little ridiculous: if you don't want your hateful comments to be known and/or associated with you, don't say them in public, post them to your blog, put them on your SOCIAL NETWORKING page, etc. Personal is not the same as private: personal means (identifiable as) related specifically to one individual, private means not available for public consumption.
31
@17 His comments are a violent assault on some of the students he is supposed to represent. What if he said he would kick his daughter out of the house if she married a nigger?

Same thing.
32
Done. My letter has been sent to Mr. Stanley and the Midland School District regarding the McCancer they are allowing to grow within their district. This partucularly nasty malignant tumor is designed to spread its potentially deadly contagion against the LGBT community while maximizing the emotional and physical harm to anyone it comes in contact with. By continuing to employ this sorry excuse for a human being, Midland is aiding and abeting the spread of McCancer and needs to be held accountable for any fallout as a result of his continued employment. We are done taking this shit from afar, if you want trouble we can stir some up for you, we will be in your face and you will not have a moment of peace until this disease is cauterized. I am so done with this shit.
33
Oh gus, and infrequentposter, I am just stunned by this guy. Posts like this make me want to buy a huge house and gather up all the kids who've been thrown out by monsters like this...uhg, it's sickening. As much as I hope he doesn't have a gay son, gus, you just know there are a hundred idiots like him who do.

And Clayton, great letter. I need to write one, too.
34
@17 - I firmly believe that teachers and education-related professionals are overly scrutinised (and I am one, and semi-closeted to boot, so believe me, I know whereof I speak). However. This man is clearly biased against at least a tenth of his charges. I would not trust him to make unbiased, considerate decisions where their lives are concerned.

I'm fully aware that many men think all women are bitches, and they're entitled to express those opinions, as I am entitled to call them douchebags in return. However, if a male prison guard at a female prison posted that all women deserved rape and torture just by existing, I would expect him to be removed from his post, and barred all access to vulnerable female prisoners right fucking quick. It's the same principle.
35
The tiny ray of light in this is that some podunk town in Arkansas actually saw fit to try and get people to wear purple ribbons in the first place. I do like *that*. (Note he complains about "they want me to wear purple.")
36
@ 35 - not to rain on your small, small parade, but that was a national/global thing. He could've heard about it independent of any local effort.
37
Like the anti civil rights crazies of the '50 & 60, crazy whack jobs like this only help our cause. They show the true venom and seething hate of the homophobic right, who for some reason can't stop thinking about gay people. Normal non-gay-obsessed people don't want anything to do with that sort of vileness.
38
It's absurd that a person who believes that "thereselves" is a word holds a position of power within a school district.
39
@34 - hit the nail right on the head. exactly.
40
McCance is an evil, low-life, inbred, blowhard buffoon who is an embarrassment to himself and anyone who listens to him. He probably beats his wife and craves male company in a way he's never come to grips with. He's probably too stupid to even realize he's in the closet. There's no other explanation for his unhinged outburst.

If every boy who ever got called "fag" in school was gay, then straights would be about 5% of the population. As we're not, there's a lesson there for even flaming homophobes like McCance, if he wasn't too stupid, too paranoid, too haughty, and too insecure about his own sexuality to learn it.

Bullying in school has to stop. If for no other reason than it interferes with educational efficiency. Someone on a school board should know that. The morons who elected McCance also need to realize that one large successful lawsuit, and their property taxes could double, so having a shithead like him stirring up more bullying in the district isn't such a good idea.
41
Is this really the beginning of the end of the culture wars that we're seeing?

Is all this noise just the sound of the dinosaurs dying off, finally?

Sometimes, I must admit, I despair of humanity - me, an admitted optimist!! But sometimes I just get so damned sick of people's ignorance, and prejudice, and hate-filled centers that I.. that I.... that I fantasize really hard about that mythic cabin on top of the mountain where I like to go to escape the bloody-minded hairless apes and commune with my real friends, the critters.......... sigh.
42
Here's a link to the Arkansas Dept of Education's reaction to McCance's FB posting:
http://www.todaysthv.com/news/local/stor…
If you scroll down, there's a post by Trackmedic, which I read, and followed through to his blog page on that site, he has a horrible story about bullying on it. He describes himself as "a Christian who happens to be more open-minded than most." It's a touching, sad read.
43
@36, Oh I know. It's just the way he's worded it that makes me think there was a request from above. Otherwise I'd think he'd say something like "People are wearing purple ribbons, fuck that." Um, sprinkle the necessary misspellings in there if you will, I don't have his talent for that.

Ah hell, here's an even tinier parade: They heard about wearing purple even in bumfuck Arkansas!!

Alright, alright, I'll lay off the caffeine already...
44
I am writing in regards to the fact that a member of your school board has posted a number of extremely homophobic comments to his Facebook page. Apparently incensed that he had been asked to participate in LGBT Spirit Day, he opined that "The only way I'm wearin [purple] for them is if they all commit suicide"; then followed up with the fact that he's happy gay people can't procreate and that he is also happy when they get AIDS and die. He uses homophobic slurs throughout his comments and suggests that young gay people simply stay in the closet if they would rather not be bullied.

Currently, our entire nation is filled with sadness over the mistreatment of young gay people in our schools. A number of young men who either self-identified as gay or were considered to be gay by their classmates have recently been bullied to the point of suicide. At a time when people are banding together to assure young people that they have a future worth living for no matter what their sexual orientation, a member of your school board feels comfortable informing the public that "I would disown my kids if they were gay. They will not be welcome at my home or in my vicinity. I will absolutely run them off. Of course my kids will know better. My kids will have solid christian beliefs. See it infects everyone." He tells gay youth to hide their identities and stay silent if they don't want to be bullied. These suggestions are outrageous, especially since a child doesn't have to be out and proud for his/her classmates to get some impression they may be gay and begin to torment him or her. Harassment and bullying are not the fault of the victims. Giving a person who believes in such a monstrous concept, and chooses to express his beliefs in public, power over the lives of children is a terrible idea.

It is my sincere hope that you, as a superintendent of schools, understand your responsibility for the well-being of the children in your care. And that you understand that allowing a man who is so filled with vitriol and anger toward gay people simply for their sexual orientation to serve in your school board, that he uses a public venue to post that type of garbage wishing mass suicide and deadly diseases on other human beings, is not at all constructive or acceptable.

Ask yourself what the gay youth in your school district would think if they read these comments - a man publicly spewing the worst type of hate: wishing suicide and deadly diseases upon them, suggesting that they lack good values, telling them that their mere existence somehow ruins his life, and even declaring that he would disown his own children if they turn out to be gay.

Please take appropriate actions to sanction Clint McCance or remove him from your school board. Take a stand against hatred.
45
Horrifying to think that these people influence decisions for public schools. But I think the tide is slowly turning. I don't think this individual will find the kind of kindred audience he might have 5 years ago, or even last year. It just takes some dumb-asses longer than others to climb down off of hate mountain. I fired off a letter to the Super, who will hopefully give dumb-ass a little guidance.
46
Gah. I feel like I need to bleach my mind after reading that hateful nonsense.
47
@44

1) Nicely worded letter

2) LOVE that username! :D

You know, just the fact that the FB page to get this dick fired got 14000 members in so short a time speaks levels. People are getting sick and tired of this kind of bigotry. It's not so acceptable anymore, and very soon will be the kind of thing that gets people kicked out of stores, as it should be.

We are definitely winning.
48
Stuff like this almost makes me want to re-join Facebook. Almost. I'll just write to Mr. Stanley.
49
#4, Why wait till graduation to catch the bus out of town? Drop out, get out, and it'll get better sooner! Many places have resources for young people out on their own. Do some research, and escape. THAT'S what the internet is for.

51
@17, as a teacher myself I agree that I & my colleagues have a right to a private personal life. However, I don't think that Facebook status messages count as "private," even if they are only visible to "friends," when the content of these messages shows blatant hatred towards a subset of students. If these thoughts were in a private email, or spoken in conversation with a friend, then I would defend his right to privacy - but posting something as your status is about as private as wearing it on your t-shirt.
52
I'm pretty sure the theme music to "Deliverance" is playing everywhere you go in Independence County, AR. I'm excited to see in Wikipedia that it's an all-white county (95%) and that its most significant cities are named "Cave City" and "Oil Trough". Oil Trough "is believed to have acquired its name from a trough used to render bear fat".

I suspect that in Independence County "gay" is merely a euphemism for "can read and write".

Mr. Stanley,

I am writing in response to the recent Facebook posts by Mr. Clint McCance, a member of your school board. He must be removed immediately and without consideration.

His brand or ignorance and hate has no place anywhere, especially in a post that is supposedly concerned with the education and well being of young people.

I don’t know how large your school is, but there are gay students in it. And for whatever reason, Mr. McCance would rather have them dead.

Oftentimes, doing the right thing is difficult. This is not one of those times.

Regards,
Nhaven1
55
Fnarf, you're right and from what I'm seeing and reading they have nothing else going on there in BF, AK but their prejudices. You know things are bad when your Friday and Saturday nights consist of mimicking your dog and scraping your butt across the carpet several times just for fun.
56
Dear Superintendent Stanley:

I am not a member of your community, so I can certainly understand if you choose to disregard my message. However, after reading about some comments that Midland school board member Clint McCance recently made on his Facebook page about gays and lesbians, and in light of the recent high-profile suicides of young gay people in communities across the country, I felt compelled to speak up. Mr. McCance wrote that he resented a request to wear a purple armband in honor of five young people who committed suicide, whom he referred to as "queers" and "fags". He went on to say that if "you get easily offended being called a fag then don't tell anyone you are a fag." McCance added that he "liked the fact that fags can't procreate [and] I also enjoy the fact that they often give each other AIDS and die."

Mr. McCance is certainly entitled to his opinions, loathsome as they may be. However, I would like to point out to Mr. McCance that many of the students in his school district are, in fact, "fags". Despite his advice to the contrary, not all of them have the luxury of not withholding information about their sexual orientation. Anti-gay bullies have a knack for ferreting out gay people for harassment whether they choose to disclose their sexual orientation or not. McCance should certainly know that, since it is clear that he is one of the bullies. A man who irresponsibly spouts off such hateful, venomous comments about gay people is simply unfit to serve on a school board, in which capacity he is responsible for the well-being of all the students in his community. His remarks make it clear that he cannot discharge his duties in a fair and impartial manner. I hope that the Midland school board will take immediate action to remove Mr. McCance from his position and replace him with someone who values all students regardless of sexual orientation.
57

Here's what I wrote:

Dear Supt. Stanley,

I understand you are no doubt receiving many emails on the Clint McCance issue, so I will keep mine brief and civil.

I realize as an elected official, you cannot personally take steps to remove Mr. McCance from office. However, as you consider what options you do have, and which should be employed, keep this simple fact in mind:

Mr. McCance is elected to provide for the education and betterment of students, yet he is advocating that a significant number of them DIE.

No matter what other considerations there may be, it is absolutely, fundamentally incompatible with the job of a school board member to advocate that children under their supervision die. Mr. McCance deserves no slack, no sympathy, no wiggle room for his comments, which he made, then expanded upon, and then expanded upon then, despite being given multiple opportunities to moderate his tone or explain how he might conceivably been misinterpreted.

You DO have the power to refuse to deal with him. You can call for his immediate resignation and withdrawal from any race for re-election. You can ask the other school board members to apply pressure on him to do the same, you can ask them to adopt a resolution condemning his remarks. You can do more than hide behind "no comment" pablum and being unavailable for comments.

You have a limited window here in which to take the moral high ground - not the fake moral ground of "We love the sinner but hate the sin" regarding homosexuality that many so-called "Christians" employ, but the one that says "We will not tolerate this kind of offensive bigotry in a civil society. Delaying makes it look as though you agree with McCance - surely that is not the impression you wish to give. I urge you to do what you were selected to do, and that is LEAD your system. Not off a cliff, as McCance would, but to the moral high ground

Wow, just wow. Did a gay person kill Mr McCance's puppy when he was a kid? Because, really where the hell else does that sort of hatred come from? I feel sorry for any kid who has to go to that school - and not just the gay kids or any other kids that Mr McCance decides are "sinful" in some way but also all of those kids who are being taught this tradition of intolerance and hatred.

@ 41, I hope you're right. I hope it is just the death-throes of the dinosaurs, and in fifty years people will look back and shake their heads in amazement that people like McCance were ever allowed in positions of influence.

And as for religion - wasn't there something in the Bible about judging not, lest you be judged?

Another school (another country), another take. I'm very amused by several things -- the redneck reference to the whole of the US (mind you, not far off the mark in this respect), and noticing the name of the opposing group (yes ANOTHER xian group wringing their hands). Now, Australia by and large from my understanding can be fairly homophobic, but this is a much more sensible approach: http://www.theage.com.au/national/educat…
69
Joined the page. Drafting a letter. I'm really trying to imagine the school board NOT taking action had he written the same status update, substituting for "fag" and "queer." In the last 40 years, it has become utterly unacceptable to publicly advocate this kind of hate for other races. I cannot wait for the day it becomes just as unacceptable to openly advocate hate for those whose sexual orientation differs from one's own.

Oh, and Clint McCance is a fucking closet case.
70
Goddammit, Slog. I keep forgetting I can't use caret symbols in my posts. The second clause of the first full sentence should read: substituting 'racial epithet of your choice' for "fag" or "queer."

I like Clint McCance. He is open and honest; frank in his self expression and unequivocal in his statements. He is giving up of his personal time to serve his community (which so few of us are willing to do), and keeps up to date on current issues that affect his constituency. The fact that his IQ is lower that the legal alcohol limit, his educational attainments rival that of a zoo-bred, anesthetized bonobo, and his emotional maturity ranked somewhere between crows and cats, makes his public service all the more astonishing. Keep up the good work Clint. You are now internationally renowned for your service to your town, state and country.
74
@73 Oh please tell me you didn't just use a bonobo reference?? Way to drive the thread count up to 300... ;)
75
@9 and @22. . .. .your stereotyping of 'conservative evangelicals' and 'Christians' is just as offensive as this man's stereotype of homosexuals. Christianity does not teach to 'hate innocent children' and it's very unfortunate that this is your understanding. I am a Christian and I do not support this man's view. His is one opinion. . .. . .we don't all think alike!
76
How sad that there are 7 other people who publicly stated they "liked" his posting. God help the poor children of Arkansas -all of them!!
77
Here's what I sent to Mr. Stanley:

As a former high school teacher, I was deeply disturbed to read the Facebook postings by Mr. McCance regarding Spirit Day. His words and his attitude toward gays would be merely offensive if he were just some idiot who thinks "thereselves" is a word, but he is that AND a school board member. People have been removed from all sorts of positions for posting less offensive material online, and if there's anything you can do to remove this person from his position of power over kids, I certainly hope you will. There's no doubt that there are gay students in your schools; if nothing can be done about this loudmouth school board member, perhaps someone should start a fund to pay for express bus tickets out of town for them upon graduation.

78
There's a comprehensive post over at JoeMyGod, if you scroll down there's an interview on MSNBC of a writer from the Arkansas Times by Thomas Roberts (who is apparently the model that Disney uses for all of its "tall, dark, and handsome" prototypes...)

How in God's name could this man post such vile stuff on FB you ask? Because he knows he can get away with it. He can't be fired (which is another big problem) so he smugly rants knowing a) he won't lose his job and b) it pisses the hell out of those rabid homo liberals- hardee har har.

So what to do- complain to the superintendent? Unless he knows how to fire this guy all he is going to do is take aspirin for the giant headache this mess is giving him.

Censor the guy-hmm sets a bad precedent, 1st amendment and all. He IS entitled to express his opinions, however hateful, short of yelling fire in a crowded theater.

That leaves humiliation an shunning. He may have a job now but the only one he'll have in the future is with the likes of Fred Phelps. Nothing like being reviled to make someone reconsider opening their big mouth.

What a bigot.
I'm a Christian - I simply can't equate this with the message of love and peace that I was taught. The fundamentalists in every religion, have corrupted the message to suit their own, nasty, small-minded ways.

homoliberals are clueless about how government in america works.

they are so used to crying to a homoliberal judge to get what they want they think that is how the world really works.

this man is elected by the people.

if they don't like what he is doing the can not reelect him.

or recall him.

the superintendent fire him?

HE hires and fires the superintendent, geniuses.

if you are winning why do you keep killing yourselves?

"winning" may not mean what you think it does.

Anderson Cooper has the whistleblower on this bully:

Anyone else noticing that Cooper has been pretty on top of the GLBT bullying issues lately?

You know, when I read shit like that, all I can think is, WHY DO PEOPLE FUCKING CARE WHO OTHER PEOPLE STICK THEIR DICKS/TONGUES/FINGERS/WHATEVER INTO???? I mean, seriously, I, for one, have better things to worry about than who everyone else in the world is getting it on with.

Also, I totally didn't realize that he said "thereselves"; I tend to read really bad English with the proper words instead of the actual ones, as a subconscious defense mechanism. Wow. That's something I've never heard anyone with an IQ over 65 say--and yes, I mean that literally. Well, IQ over 65 or age over 5, maybe.

"....the fact that they often give each other AIDS and die."

How accurate is the illiterate asshole's information?

According to the CDC 20% of homosexuals have AIDS.

44X as many as normal Americans.

Does that qualify as 'often'?

For an illiterate asshole Clint seems to be fairly well versed in homosexual health issues.

In fact, he raises important issues that Dan never addresses.

Good safe health practices for homosexuals must not be as exciting for Dan as bashing religion.....

Dear Mr. Stanley,
I am outraged at the sentiments expressed by Mr. McCance on his Facebook page. That is a public forum! He can be as stupid as he likes in private, but he holds a public office and could be in a position of leadership--except this shows he isn't. These are CHILDREN who have committed suicide, and being gay is not a choice (when did you choose to be straight, Mr. McCance?). How does someone being gay ruin the rest of "our" lives? And seriously, he hopes they all commit suicide? Be assured there will be people very close to him in that number. Please take action to curb this behavior. He can believe what he wants and he doesn't have to wear purple, but to spew poison on a public forum and hold a public office is unconscionable.

By the way, I'm a straight person, so I'm not advancing some personal "gay agenda" here. I just recognize that Mr. McCance's attitude is exactly the sort of verbiage that makes young questioning people feel there is no way out for them.

Sincerely,

Santa Fe, NM

Dear Mr. Stanley,

After his unsolicited, homophobic and illiterate rantings on Facebook, I’m writing to urge you to promptly dismiss Clint McCance from the Midland School Board. I can only imagine the depths of ignorance that could result in such vile hatred; it is terrifying to consider the power he currently has regarding the welfare of the in your school district. If you are in any way ambivalent about making such a decision, the fact that he has such a poor command of the English language should certainly be a factor—don’t let his ignorance represent you and the rest of the board. I urge you to do the right thing and protect every student in your care. The eyes of the country are upon you.
