Comparing Seattle City Council Members to the Residents They Represent

Comments

And they keep getting re-elected by city-wide vote of all the city's elderly voters who picking incumbents/names they recognize/whoever the Times endorses. We need those council positions to be based on a district so there's a chance for opposition to actually win vs incumbents.

Notice the lack of turn-over unless the incumbent runs for higher office (or has public scandal - Compton/McIver).

Drago - higher office 09
McIver - Scandal
Della - * did lose to Burgess
Steinbrueck - chose not to seek reelection
Compton - resigned (over jetting to an NBA game with Allen, carousing with strip club moguls). '06

About the only good thing the council is doing is not putting Godden as president.

Same for the legislatewhore,Our CONgress, and even the ambASSadors at the United "Nations"/Ruling Classes.
3
Bringing back district voting and eliminating private funding of municipal elections would help.
4
Seattle has NO socialists in city hall;many European cities do (including Amsterdam,Berlin, and Stockholm).
5
If the average age of the voter is so much lower than the average age of the council, then one or both of the following must be true: 1. Voters don't care how old or young a candidate might be...there are other more important factors to consider. 2. Those who for some reason think age IS important don't bother to vote in any strong numbers. BTW some of the most rabid right-wing members of the US Congress are young Republicans in their 30s and late 20s...making a choice based on age is as stupid as making a choice based on gender or race.
6
It's because most young people are both transient and renters, two groups with little attachment to local issues. So they don't pay attention.
7
What an astute political commentary you have there: Young people don't vote! Why, you really have your finger on the pulse of this nation, don't you, Mister G?
8
It's the stalker bitch again! What took ya so long?
9
I have a job. You may not be familiar with the concept, but suffice it to say I don't have the time to sit at home masturbating to Here Comes Honey Boo Boo like you spend your days.
10
You have enough time to stalk me through every thread I post in. Kind of pathetic, bitch!
11
It only takes a few minutes to find your drivel and clean it up, no matter how much of it you leak on The Stranger's nice carpeting.
