You are simple to think that a defeat of Prop 1 means anything but that Prop 1 lost in this election.
There is in fact a problem with park financing; and so the Prop 1 people will come back and make up a better plan for the voters to consider. It is done that way all the time: improve and do-over.
Factory meat, torture cheese, and corporate beer. When you have the means to make choices, what you buy and consume says a lot more about you than how you vote, and those choices say you're a group of far right radicals.
I voted for myself as a Write-In candidate on most of the issues and offices this time.
However, in our state, you have to register as a Write-In candidate by filling out a form and paying a fee in proportion to the salary of the office, way before the election.
Jesus. What is the point of wearing Google Glass if you're going to cover over the lens? Doesn't that defeat the entire point of wearing the stupid things? Why not just leave the fucking thing at home? What a tool.
Also, I gotta stick up for Bothell a bit. They have a kickass library, much better than the one on Capitol Hill (or Wallingford or Greenwood, the ones I go to most).
You might recognize that guy terrorizing people with his Google glass from the front page of today's Seattle Times. He's Lee Colleton, the privacy activist (it's ironic, I know. But he does always cover the camera on his Google glass with a cover) who caught the SPD's rogue node tracking cell phones at a protest.
@14, you are, as always, completely mistaken. I have been to the Beacon Hill branch; I've been to almost all SPL and KCLS branches, even in weird non-places like Covington. And all of the KCLS Regional libraries (not the smaller ones) are bigger and better than any SPL branch including Beacon Hill -- Burien, Bothell, Shoreline, etc.
You? I doubt you've been in a library since you were ten years old. You've certainly never touched a book from one (or anywhere else).
Parks has a pretty narrow lead, 52-48, I wouldn't call it a done deal yet.
I'm super disappointed at the returns in the 7th District election, AKA the Who's Going To Lose To McDermott In November election.
The "Immigrants Are Killing The Economy" republican is beating the "Geothermal Energy Is The Answer To Everything" republican, 9% to 6%. That's a huge gap.
The Stranger really should have endorsed the saner of the two republicans, then we might actually have a reasonable debate and maybe bring up some issues people care about. Instead, we have what we always have. Representative For Life McDermott not bothering to campaign, and a token batshit fringe right-wing sacrificial Republican running against him.
Did either of the R's show up to the endorsement interview?
80/20 for Chopp, LOL. Given how quickly Spear's flyers were getting torn down it's not terribly surprising. I guess Sawant has already satiated Seattle's appetite for glorified college campus Marxist politicians.
And as a former Bothell resident (hey, I was a teenager, blame my parents) I second Fnarf's claim about the Bothell library. It is easily one of the best in the county.
It is pretty fuckin' ridiculous that you would make fun of Sawant for raising money. These campaigns are funded by people, not corporations. When you are outspent 10 to 1 every cent counts.
Sawant has made a few missteps but compared to the rest of the City Council she is like a breath of fresh air.
The Socialist Alternative party is the epitome of pseudo-intellectual wankery. They are the left-wing equivalent of the Tea Party, capitalizing on those that are passionate and idealistic, but ignorant of how politics actually works. The Tea Party has caused the Republicans to devolve into obstructionism, and the Socialist Alternatives threaten to do the same here.
1.) Democracy - whether or not it passes, the people voted on whether to tax themselves.
2.) State Income Tax - if you really want economic equity in the evergreen state, we need an income tax. Even some rich people have said it. But politicians can't even murmur the term without the "mostly un-wealthy property owners" acting like they said something awful about their mothers. Until we grow up and realize just what a welfare state we run for the rich, things will never change.
@ 5, the lack of response until now likely means you've jumped the shark here at Slog, but I still feel compelled to point out that poor minorities would also buy those items rather than free trade lentils and locally distilled spirits.
The kid in the picture with Gael Tarleton in the Alehouse is a YouTube semi-celeb that goes by the moniker "thatzak." I hope he makes a video about this, he's pretty funny.
@8 those are prescription lenses. Also, easier to see Twitter updates from the party while I'm twiddling my thumbs waiting for people to show up at the front door. Look at every other doorman and you'll see a cellphone in their idle hands.
Hey SECB, what's up with snapping photos of my tootsies without asking first? Kelly O asked if she could take a photo of my bestickered Glass. Is it okay to take surreptitious photos of peoples feet on the street now?
Oh man. Please. Oh. Please. Name ONE civilization that was destroyed by "hedonism."
This ought t'be good.
We have climate change, ocean acidification, nuclear weapons, war, plagues, famine... but what is this idiot worried about? That's right, everybody. Raindrop's worried about people fucking and drinking too much!
"Toe shoes?" Are you that clueless? Or too hep to shop at REI? They are Five Fingers. Yeah, weird name; fingers are on hands. Anyway they are damn comfortable. Although I always freak slightly when I'm wearing them and look down at my feet.
(b) Prop 1 might be decided with this election, but it might not be decided tonight.

Stinker.
Grats on the win, Parks!

I'm sorry, but I can no longer consider this election coverage credible.
Sawant has made a few missteps but compared to the rest of the City Council she is like a breath of fresh air.
I've enjoyed the writing. The election night roundups always tend to bring out the better of you guys.
Jim McDermott meeting with Eddie Murray? Maybe the plan is to have Murray succeed McDermott into the U.S. House after the latter retires. Hm.....
Also, I know it's a primary, but I'm still disappointed at the turnout. Come on! Do you not care? Prop 1 didn't excite you after all?
The Stranger: Corporate Newspaper still.

Wha... hahaha! Ha haha hahahaha!
