I got a speeding ticket at one of the signs that was proved not to be to code and the City admitted it had to replace. Judge wouldn't drop it yesterday even though the City is clearly wrong. I wouldn't rely on a Stranger post telling you not to pay.
The problem with this is that unpaid tickets is just another thing on your record that cops use to harass you with (like the original pot ticket itself, which has nothing to do with pot enforcement and everything to do with low-level harassment of people on the street). If you're trying against odds (which Holmes has never faced) to stay out of the cops' hair, you want that shit adjudicated away, even if it costs you money. Sort of like how a busted taillight is a bigger deal for people who are also Driving While Black.
I still don't understand why Holmes insisted on legislation for these pot tickets if he is now saying don't pay the fines. Can some journalist find that out?
I remember very clearly stating, before these ticket laws were enacted, that they would be used to harass homeless and black folks. But we were assured that warnings would be
issued first. If they can't prove a warning was issued first all tickets should be voided.
"SPD chief Kathleen O'Toole said in a recent interview with The Stranger that she reassigned Jokela to desk duty..."
Uhh, desk duty's last name is "duty." If he's on desk duty, he's working and he's not on administrative leave. These two grafs are completely contradictory. I could write a way better story than this.
Not paying them leaves them on your record, it could affect you later and Pete Holmes will not be in office forever. Contest them. If they are not dismissed immediately, then he can explain why he's been talking out his arse.
Before moving any further with this Dom cop pot story, did the Dom cop photo story from last year ever get resolved? I know it was endlessly fascinating, generating 2 billion words of documentation, but somehow I missed the ending.
OT but I was just discussing pot sales with someone from California.
I was asking if he knew what the restrictions were on the wholesale purchase.
For example, could a retail store in CO or WA, buy pot from a medical marijuana farm in CA? How about from a source where pot is illegal? (Once it's over the WA or CO border, it becomes instantly legal, or not?)
I believe that if you do not pay these tickets, they get sent to a collections agency, which hurts your credit history and results in fun phone calls to you and your family. Not sure if I would follow Petey's advice on this one. @10 is right - contest them.
@14: Yes, but the department as a whole has not learned that lesson. Just last week, a King County Sheriff's Deputy harassed and arrested a man for recording. See http://photographyisnotacrime.com/2014/0… for details.
@22: Yeah... 53.2%-46.8% in favor of Prop 1... leading by over 8000 votes. I think you might NOT want some of that. Sounds like it got spiked with something bad.
Thing is, Washington State is one of the few places where good inexpensive beer, cider, wine, & spirits cost less than our fine curated MJ with provenance ...
@13 the marijuana sold here legally is audited and tracked from growers to processors to retailers. There's no way to legally sell (non-medicinal) pot here that was grown by someone other than the legally WA licensed growers.

Wow, that will really fuck up life for the bums down on Vic Streinbrueck Park. How will they ever recover with a credit score under 700?
@24: wtf are you talking about? Washington does not have inexpensive hooch. In point of fucking fact we have the highest taxes on booze in the US. So kinda exactly the opposite of inexpensive.
And don't even get me started on trying to compare costs of booze and pot.
Are you trying to reclaim your title of dumbest motherfucker on the planet? Jealous of Bailo?
I think it's irresponsible for the POG to not also be interested in the rights of Citizens that they are sworn to protect and defend. Shame on Ron Smith and Jokela for defending this practice and erroding public trust. They are their own worst enemy.
issued first. If they can't prove a warning was issued first all tickets should be voided.
But you don't mess with Pete Holmes. You just don't.
Interesting. I thought "union" was a four-letter word to conservatives.
