I can't help but be disappointed. The legislature will surely pass *something* this year, but it will take another year to find out if it is working. Unless the legislature stonewalls completely we'll be right back in this position in 2016. I would rather the court took a more decisive action now. A generation of school children are going to pass through the underfunded system before anything is done to turn it around.
And what will be the likely outcome if the Republicans control the State Senate again next year? They absolutely love gridlock; do-nothing is Republican mantra.
If a court held me in contempt, do you think they'd let my punishment slide for a year? No. The court should have done something more direct and immediate to spank the legislature. Although @4's suggestion is amusing, the court could have fined all of the legislators that didn't do their job, or something active besides just more threats of future punishment.
Don't need to bother with jail time. Just withhold their paychecks...or better yet, benefits package. Suddenly all that 'attention' won't just be lip service..
Don't want to hear even one word chastising the legislature out of the Murray camp. He had years to show leadership on education funding. He offered nothing at the state level. He did nothing. He is nowhere on education despite his Newfound Passion for PreK ed, which - in case you aren't a detail reader - is about to be a drain in time talent faciltites and $$$ of the underfunded K12 Seattle system.
No really, this time we *really* mean it. We're serious. You legislators aren't doing what the law says you're supposed to, so please knock it off. Or we might get mad and not wait yet another fucking year to provide resources to the kids who are in school right now with diminished resources, bad bus transportation, and underpaid/underappreciated teachers. Really, we mean it. But don't get mad! We'll probably cave again! Let's go have ice cream! We're buying!
A bucket to pee in.
Lights out and in their cots by 10pm.
Delicious meals catered by the chefs ay Monroe.
Those orange jumpsuits.
That should help them reform.

They all go bye bye the day after you fail to fund Education by the end of session.
Each.
And.
Every.
One.
