Do they not have people with creative ideas that can plan a protest that makes a point, but not have it be the same tactic (block traffic), in the same area (westlake or broadway), same time of day (5-6pm) over and over again?

Stupid, stupid, stupid and it pisses off nice old liberals like me who marched against the Vietnam war, and even the Iraq war. This is too much. There is no excuse for rioting and property damage. The people who do that are opportunists who are just taking advantage of the "movement" to wear their bandannas and wreak their own havoc with hammers and rocks.
