I'd much rather Sawant take on Tim Burgess.

In a city-wide Clark vs. Sawant election, I'd be more likely to vote for Clark (though I might be convinced otherwise). Although I sometimes disagree with Clark, and she's dreadfully boring, I don't think Clark has done a bad job overall. She's had a few missteps, but has generally proven to be pretty competent.

Burgess is a different story. He's a dick. How he's managed to stay on the city council is beyond me. He's far more conservative than he seems on the surface. I'd vote for Sawant over Burgess without hesitation.

So I guess we know who the mayor wants to represent district 3.

Hey, I actually read Charter Amendment 19. It requires district candidates to be a resident for 120 days before filing. The last day to file in May 15th so a candidate would have to establish residency by January 15 to qualify. If Jess Spears,or anyone else, wants to move into a District to run there, they need to get a move on.

@1

Burgess is also more popular and tougher to unseat than Clark. I don't think Sawant could take him out, but Clark is vulnerable for a host of reasons besides lower approval ratings. She has a really a hard time with no-brainer gestures, for example, insisting on arcane unwritten rules of decorum in order to prove a point nobody cares about. In a debate with Sawant, Clark would let herself be put on the ropes defending Microsoft or Boeing against some technically slightly inaccurate criticism. She'll miss the forest for the trees, rather than trying to show the voters she's a more effective voice of the people than Sawant. Rope-a-dope, and she's the dope.

(How much less than 70% do you think Ed Murray's favorable rating is now? I think maybe a lot. Honeymoon's over.)

Spear didn't "ultimately fail." She failed bigtime in the primary and then failed worse in the final. How about "continually failed?"
6
God, ANYTHING to take out Sally "Milquetoast" Clark please? She's really the worst.

Hmmmm.... Much as I hate Clark, and I do, I don't think this is a wise tactic. There is a good time to attack and a good time to defend territory, and I think defense is the best offense for the socialists right now. Sawant should continue solidifying her base and working for the working class from the third for another term. I don't think Clark is as universely despised as Conlin was, and I don't think Spear can win anything. The risk here is Sawant losing narrowly to Clark and Spear losing to a dirty cat box by a landslide, leaving us with no socialists in city government at all. Scary prospect.

@1 Wow you are wrong Burgess is the best member on the council and really a shame he isn't mayor. He isn't conservative at all but no wonder a fan of Sawant would think so. Sawant is an extremist who needs to go. Put a liberal Democrat in her seat.
9
@ 7 Why is that scary it would make the council so much more reasonable.
10
@3, couldn't she just rent a small room in Sawant's recently bought condo for a pittance and change her voter registration to accomplish the "move" to district 3 ?
11
Chefjoe-

Theoretically, yes. I think her opponents would paint her as a carpetbagger though. And rightfully so...

I'm voting for the candidate in the middle of the photo - the blonde! Great hairdo! I'm with #7, Sawant would do better staying in district 3.voters will remember what she accomplished, not which district she represents

What's the story with that photo and the left-handed Nazi salutes? It's just weird.

Roger--You need to see the Hunger Games movies.

Please wait...
