The second graph seems more racially diverse than The Stranger staff, and definitely more diverse than our lily white comment gang. But diversity isn't our concern here on Slog, we're an elite think tank.
That first graph is very interesting. In some ways, there are reasons to be optimistic, in that it seems like Latinos are significantly closing the gap, and Asians score the best. It makes the demographic group "people of color" a hard one to pigeonhole, which is probably a good thing.
All this suggests is that certain ethnic groups behave better than others. Have you ever seen an Asian begging for change outside of Dick's? Attacking policeman after pulling robberies?
Given the super-majority of white peopke in WA state, the 10% figure of non-white reps doesn't surprise me. After all, there are very few majority-minority districts in this state. The other, more surprising discrepancy would be an overabundance of male vs female legislators, when the voting population is likely more than half women.
