@1: Ken, are you opposed to the production of everything that can be used to cause harm to children?
3
@1: Same could be said for guns, cars and Bourbon, so what's your point?

There was some initial rabblin' about this new group of Stranger writers, but I've enjoyed Heidi's pieces, as well as the other (two?) quite a bit. Keep up the coverage on stories like this, and here's hoping the insufferability that slowly overtook a few former writers will show mercy on this batch.

So what's the potential range of jail time for the charge they were convicted on?
7
@6 - A previous article mentioned 5 years with the possibility of an additional 5 years for a firearms enhancement.
8
@6 - Sorry, I misunderstood your question.

Cowardly feds too chicken-shit to go to court and "prove" cannabis should be treated like uranium . . . .--- http://www.hemp.com

@5: You're wrong about the risks of marijuana, but since your mind is made up, I'll refrain from confusing you with any facts, since yo seem to think that early humans survived the ice age with firearms I'll just leave you in your fantasy world

Ken, your "...well documented facts" are extremely, selectively gathered. They omit all the recently and still being discovered benefits of its multitude of compounds. The negatives are far, FAR outweighed by the medical and pharmacological benefits. Your logic would dictate that beer and nicotine be abolished at once (way more damaging in terms of community health and safety all around) whereas I'd likely not be walking and talking, functioning human being without cannabis. I've been on dozens of anti-depressant cocktails (Rx combinations) in the last 20+ years and a modest daily dose of THC/cannabinoids has been more effective at keeping me functional and stable than *anything* else with nearly none of the side effects. Cheaper too when I compare its cost vs my multiple Rx co-pays. I don't disagree with your right to your opinion, but I disagree mightily with its logic being applied by a non-expert, non-affected individual to consenting adults who should get to choose for themselves. No one will make you or your kids ingest any, I promise. But keep your hands and opinions off the only fucking thing that has ever touched my long-term (and yes fully diagnosed by multiple medical doctors not in the pot industry) depression/anxiety. Your gentle think-you-know-what's-best for society patronizing attitude about things that don't affect you personally makes me want to scream. Loudly and repeatedly in your ear until you get just how real and personal this is to real, living breathing responsible contributing-to-society adult. Why take ass-holeish attitudes towards something you have no stake in?

So you guys have like 20 slog posts in 2 days on a pot case, but can't be bothered to ever go check out the two death penalty cases happening right now in King County. This after writing a bunch of articles on the way death penalty trials are conducted. Gee, maybe it'd be a good idea to see how things go in person? Naaah - clearly a pot case is more important than the death penalty.

@5:

What you THINK and what actually IS don't necessarily correlate.

And give me enough humans and enough pointy sticks and we don't need a .30-06. Our ancestors survived pretty well without modern technology, at least well enough for people like you to be born.

I am so happy to be a (transplanted) Washingtonian.

Guns are not terrifying, go to the range and get familiar
@ 1 pots negative effects on society are minimal, certainly not as high as meth which is on a lower schedule of regulation
@ 14 the murderers in the DP cases are without a doubt guilty of all chRges of capital murder, these pot farmers hurt no one

The defense attorneys for the Kettle Falls Five case, who to-date have offered their services free of charge, have now launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for legal fees and costs associated with the on-going case. The campaign can be accessed here:

If all the holders of state-wide appointed and elected offices did their jobs to the fullest extent of the state's constitution, then they'd arrest any federale who dared to usurp Washington law. Pfft!!! --- http://www.constitution.org EVER HEARD OF THE TENTH AMENDMENT? ONLY STATES MAY SCHEDULE SUBSTANCES!!! Pah!!! --- http://www.erowid.org & http://www.hemp.com .
