A view from Council Member Mike O'Brien's kayaktivism GoPro, because OF COURSE HE HAS A KAYAKTIVISM GOPRO. Mike O'Brien

Guess which of Seattle's elected officials are joining the protesting masses?

1. Well, Council Member Mike O'Brien will be kayaking with Saturday's flotilla, because, duh, obviously. He's even GoPro'd a previous training session. O'Brien's legislative aide Josh Fogt also said he assumes O'Brien will be part of some of the civil disobedience actions on Monday, May 18.

2. Kshama Sawant will be participating on Saturday and Monday, too, because also duh, obviously. "Kshama will definitely be participating in the Festival of Resistance both on the 16th and the 18th," Sawant aide Clay Showalter wrote. It's unclear whether she'll be in a kayak. But if paddling isn't Sawant's style, may we recommend the "People's Platform"? Sounds very her.

3. Finally, Council Member Sally Bagshaw said she'd be joining the kayak flotilla on May 16 with her sailboat. "I oppose Arctic Drilling," Bagshaw wrote in an e-mail. Great. But how big is this sailboat??? The Stranger will try to determine, from our kayaks, whether it falls into the yacht category. And if it does, and we need a bathroom break, we may request boarding privileges.

Council Members John Okamoto, Tim Burgess, Tom Rasmussen, Jean Godden, Nick Licata, and Bruce Harrell did not respond to questions about whether they would be participating in this weekend's demonstrations. But who knows? Maybe they'll get inspired to revoke Shell's "social license" to squat in Elliott Bay and drill in the Arctic between now and Monday.
