that's the worst sign ever

give em hell, greeners!

Considering that the beer was not actually stolen, employees said only they tried to steal the beer, I concur with @1 - even with reserving judgement and giving the officers the benefit of the doubt. If no theft occurred, the officers could have (should have?) responded to the next call and let this one go.

@3: is there any offense so minor it does not justify a police shooting?

@4 there is no such thing when the suspect or reciever of force is black, or native or hispanic in America. Especially if you are black.

The SFPD Text-gate+ the Fort Lauderdale Txt Gate (same issue, at the same time) reveal the mindset of a large number of law enforcement. Many join just because its a free chance to hurt or kill a black person, and suffer no consequences. Even the 20s ku klux klan never had it so good...the FBI at least sort of got on their backs. The Modern law enforcement officer could mow down a class full of black preschoolers, and as long as he says "I felt my life was in danger" no (mostly white) jury will convict him, no prosecutor (way worst than cops, but thats not discussed) will seriously prosecute him, and no judge will go hard on him/her.

But, because knavel gazing defeatist among what remains of the left wing in America (actually the new center right) will rationalize it with unrelated red herring bullshit like "its not about race, its economics...cops dont kill blacks because their black, its because they are poor"/"Maybe if we reach out to police and ask them to wear body cameras *and not turn them off or lose the footage magically* things will change"!

Cops in America kill unarmed blacks at the exact same rate they did in the 50s and 60s. Conservatives are all for it, the more dead blacks the better for them. Liberals turn a blind eye to it and elect other liberals who are pro-racism so long as they can get heir own petty measures through (See Mayor McGinn in Seattle, or Bloomberg in New York, or most other Democratic Mayors in America...even African American ones like the mayor of Baltimore).

@5: Really, McGinn was "pro-racism"? You've lost me there. i must be Remaining Left Wing/New Center Right.

@2, whether they got away or not, does not change whether a misdemeanor theft occurred. If they were past the register and headed out the front door without paying, its misdemeanor theft. When you are confronted by store employees and then you throw beer at the employees, now its felony robbery because theft + the offer (attempt) to use force against the owner of the property is robbery. So the police were after felony robbery suspects. And we are going to protest without completing any investigation to see if two men against one officer really put him at risk of "great personal injury" or death and whether the officer acted reasonably or unreasonably. Pre-mature.

The Stranger runs down when it is lawful to use deadly force in self-defense here.

Let's wait until all the facts that can be gathered are in, weight it against that criteria, and then protest, or not.

@6

Correct me if Im wrong, but did he not turn the other way to the countless calls for SPD reform? And that was before the FBI investigation revealed just how bad racism was in the department.

So, yea, hes pro-racism. If you look the other way to a wrong, you are complicit in it.

@7

"Lets wait until the facts are all layed out" = "Lets wait until the officer gives his lawyerproof story to which the media will spoon up".

How soon we forget Juror #40 in the ferguson case, and her 'facts', which the prosecutor was perfectly willing to accept, and the media never asked a question about.

Please wait...
