Seriously, SLOG is going to cite a SPJ Code of Ethics?
Can we expect you to hold yourselves to the standards you've referenced. Because that there is some world-class Bwuuuuull-shit coming from the likes of Slog.
@4, the Stranger does not promote itself as neutral journalism. The Stranger is and always has been advocacy journalism. They are quite open about their bias.
The Seattle Times, on the other hand, does claim to be traditional neutral journalism, and they claim to hold themselves to the journalism standards that Ansel states. And bias aside, Ansel is right: that Seattle Times headline is sensationalistic and insensitive as fuck, and they should be ashamed of themselves.
If you want rationality you're looking for it in the wrong place. The Seattle Times is notorious for presenting psychopaths and killers who LOOK LIKE US (or YOU rather) and getting lots sympathetic comments about how the guy was driven, or at worst, a lot of tsk-tsk'ing on the order of "how could he" but far from "execute the thug". And Dylan Storm Roof has THE LOOK, just like Colton.
Not to excuse the Seattle Times, but The Stranger has engaged in some pretty poor and inaccurate journalism. Unlike say, Publicola, which is an advocacy journalism site also, The Stranger does not correct itself in the comments or anywhere else.
The Stranger lost its right to call out other media outlets on integrity issues when they asked liars to write lies in the paper against the $15 minimum wage.
You're all wrong. The Stranger is controlled by a liberal leaning libertarian: Tim Kneck. (Ignore how contradictory that description is but it fits) Once we got legalized weed and legalized same sex marriage in Washington state Tim flushed the last remaining journalists from his payroll and then changed the focus of the paper to be more of a list of "What's Cool to do in Seattle" for well off MicorZon employees who have a higher level of disposable income than most other groups.
You can still find The Stranger's media sales kit on line that explains in detail who the paper's key demographics are for advertising dollars.
