Wheee! And today is my 40th birthday! A fine B-day gift, even if I'm hetero and married already and in a progressive state!
2
Even several years ago, it would be difficult to imagine marriage equality in all 50 states, hurrah!!

60 people a day moving to Seattle, that is more than I would have guessed. Traffic is going to get even worse - really wish 1970s Seattle had voted for the hugely subsidized subway system.

Between this and the lowering of the Confederate Battle Flag throughout the south, we can all look back on this as the week the United States of America was finally dragged, kicking and screaming, into the 21st Century. And may we always remember the blood, sweat, toil and tears it took to get us here.

Congratulations & mazel tov to my LGBT brothers & sisters - enjoy your weekend!

86 and 90 are not THAT hot. just go sit in the shade outside like people without AC do all over the planet.

and drink water even if it is Ramadan, bonehead muslims. Allah DGAF.

@2
Totally. To accomodate that we need to open a 400 unit apartment building every week. That's like a new highrise, every week, in order to not displace people. We need a lot more development in this town or we will just fall too far behind.
7
@6, and yet Seattle's proportional strength in the state continues to decline. 20,000 came here, 70,000 came to another part of the state.

@7
What's your point? Not snark, I actually don't see how that relates.
Seattle is TINY (like 90 square miles) and expensive. It makes sense lots of people don't wind up in this city. 60 a day is a lot for a city with our level of built environment. I don't know if many more could actually fit without us building up faster. Last year our population increased .04% per day. That's nuts. We need to make room.

Go and celebrate!

But remember we have a burn ban statewide, so don't burn any Confederate flags while partying
10
@8 is correct.

@8, Rezoning more of those single family home neighborhoods into ones that will accommodate apartments will help; Also loosening up height requirements.

Then build more right of way public transportation to accommodate the population increase....A city/county approach since the rural/small town hillbilly legislators in Olympia aren't any help.

You can (and probably will) be arrested for yelling obscenities at a cop. You probably won't be convicted of anything, and likely not even charged, but they'll drag you in and ruin your day.

Please do not take legal advice from The Stranger

@8, my point is political. Seattle's strength comes out in venues like the state legislature, but our power wanes when the population grows more outside of it. As @11 points out, this matters in things like transit. Other than that, I agree that Seattle is desperate for more, more, more units, but unfortunately those units are very expensive, which hurts everyone.

Please wait...
